I’m very interested in Tulane and working on my application! Unfortunately, I had a game during my local Tulane reception so I couldn’t make it. Has anybody been to one? What admission tips or information was shared for this year? Or does anybody have any general tips they wouldn’t mind sharing? Thank you in advance, this seems like such a helpful group of people!
Demonstrated interest is important at Tulane. Reach out to area alumni or drop a note to the admissions rep for your area to let them know how disappointed you were to miss the reception. Look for an upcoming college fair for another chance to make contact. Will a Tulane rep visit your HS?
It doesn’t look like it. It’s pretty hard for us to miss class for visits anyway. Does demonstrated interest have to mean visiting? I feel like it does at some schools. I don’t think I can make it before I’m admitted, but I would come down if I got in.
Thank you for your reply btw! If anybody heard anything else specific when a counselor visited, definitely let us know!
Follow up question came up at dinner today: I’m on any upward trend and I’ll be a much stronger applicant if my fall grades are on my transcript. So I’ve been planning to apply RD, also because I’ve heard this is a less competitive pool. But my parents are second guessing that. Does anybody have experience with this at Tulane?
@brighton79th - demonstrated interest does not only mean visiting the University. It is not always feasible (due to time/money/etc) to visit Tulane and your admission counselor will not fault you for that. There are plenty of great ways to show that you are genuinely interested in Tulane - emailing your admission counselor, attending events near you, speaking with alumni, etc. With that being said, if you are truly interested in attending Tulane (or any school) I definitely recommend visiting to determine if it truly is a ‘good fit.’
@brighton79th - a large majority of admitted Tulane students come from the ED/EA applicant pool. If Tulane is one of your top schools, I strongly recommend applying EA/ED (another great way to show interest). As more and more qualified applicants choose to apply EA/ED, that leaves fewer spots available for applicants who apply RD.
@nostalgicNOLA thank you this info is all so helpful! Did you go to Tulane?
I understand showing interest by applying early I guess I’m just nervous about being denied EA because they never see my likely stronger senior grades. Your advice makes sense too though and I’m leaning towards EA.
@brighton79th - I did attend Tulane! In my opinion, you have a greater chance of admission if you apply EA without your senior grades than if you wait and apply RD.
I completely understand feeling nervous about this decision but the numbers show a greater chance of admission by applying EA/ED.
Remember: if you apply EA, you may just get deferred which means you will be able to send Tulane additional information and you will be part of the RD pool - best of both worlds if you ask me!
When did you graduate, @nostalgicNOLA ?
@jym626 - I graduated this past May (2017).
