Tulane admissions class of 2023 ed2

When you initially submitted your application to Tulane, did you have an option of applying ED2 or just ED and EA? Was ED2 an option prior to submitting your applications or was it added after the deadline and only offered to students who applied EA and were deferred and then asked to apply ED2? I am having a hard time time understanding this.

For the future class of 2024, Tulane is offering ED and EA with no mention of ED2 and curious if ED2 will just “appear” as an option after deferral from EA.

Seems strange to me…no?

Daughter is Class of 2022. When she applied RD, EA, ED, and ED2 were offered up front with dates on their website.

Same as above for my son, class of '23.

I am looking at their deadlines on Tulane website and on Common App. Nowhere is ED2 mentioned. On Naviance, my child and Gc selected ED2 with a deadline of Jan. 7. It’s weird not to see the info anywhere else. Here’s my question: Would it be better to apply EA and then convert to ED2 if deferred EA? I would love for him to get his app in sooner in EA round. Wouldn’t the ED2 have the same weight whether you apply later or convert from EA?

Tulane does not have ED2 this year (Class of 2024) only ED and EA

I suspect (but can’t confirm) that this year will be similar to last year (Class of 2023), which is that many of the well-qualified candidates who apply EA and are deferred will then be offered an option to convert their deferred EA application to a binding ED2 decision sometime between December 20th (when EA applications are notified) and January 7.

This is yield protection by Tulane. I also suspect that admissions will not (and does not have to) advertise this option in advance, as they don’t want a whole new wave of applicants into an ED2 pool, but rather will choose from all of the /ED/EA deferrals in hand to get more yield.

If they open up an ED2 application to brand new applicants that they haven’t seen yet (i.e. those that didn’t apply EA/ED by November), it will cause even more strain on the system. Keep in mind, from what we’ve been told about the total number applications in the last few years (40k+) that they can fill the entire class 2-3 times over from the ED/EA pool alone. They don’t want candidates who were rejected from Vanderbilt ED coming into the pool to muddy the waters.

@chardonMN look at my comment below. I can’t confirm, but strongly believe, that ED2 will be offered “internally only” to those well-qualified candidates that applied EA and were deferred as a way to increase yield. Even if you don’t believe that (or can’t confirm with admissions), I would encourage your son to complete his application for EA (or ED if he knows its number 1)
