Tulane Admissions

Looking for feedback from students who were accepted to Tulane this past year on their stats & extra-curriculars!
Also, if they applied EA or SCEA?

Thanks so much!

I got deferred from EA but accepted RD. I had a 1990 SAT (630 W, 660 M, 700 R), 4.0 W GPA and some decent extracurriculars (wrestling team captain, some community service). I think what got me in was that I wrote the ‘Why Tulane’ optional essay. If you really want to go this school just explain why (unless your only reason is so that you can party in New Orleans). It’s by no means impossible to get in but it definitely does take work. Good luck!

You can wade through this to get some idea of typical EA/SCEA admissions/deferrals. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/tulane-university/1701961-2019-tulane-ea-scea-decision-thread-p1.html

Thank you!

Apply early! I cannot stress this enough. I applied in mid novemeber and because there were so many EA applications, I was told that admissions didn’t even finish going through them all. I was deffered EA but later on accepted RD and offered the Dean’s Honor Scholarship. I’m so happy I ended up at Tulane and can’t wait for the fall! You can PM me if you want specific stats or additional info. I’d be happy to offer some advice  @eb1172

@fallenchemist I had a few questions about Tulane and you seem to be the person to ask. Do you know if you still get a Gibson account even if you used the Common App? also do you think that the fact that I sent in a few of my ACT scores (lowest was a 26 and highest is a 30) will hurt me or will they just consider the highest score? I have a 30 ACT 3.8 WGPA many extra curriculars good letters of rec and (in my opinion) an awesome Why Tulane essay. I’ve also shown a good amount of demonstrated interest (visited twice and attended two local sessions). I also have a long familial history in New Orleans. any ideas on my chances of getting in/merit money EA?

Hi @bonnie2020

Yes, definitely.

quoteo you think that the fact that I sent in a few of my ACT scores (lowest was a 26 and highest is a 30) will hurt me or will they just consider the highest score?

Won’t hurt you a bit, just the highest score will be the considering factor.

quoteny ideas on my chances of getting in/merit money EA?

Getting in I would say excellent chances. Merit money, I think you have a chance at some but very hard to predict. I think it might depend some on how many AP courses are either in that WGPA and/or you are taking now. Rigor of schedule is a factor.

@fallenchemist thank you for responding! I am going to graduate with 7 APs, 3 this year, 1 sophomore year and 3 last year. those APs are primarily english and history based though and my math and science courses are probably more weak (mostly college prep). I’m also in national honor society and an AP scholar

My guess (emphasize guess) is that you will get a merit offer. How much, that I wouldn’t try to predict.

@fallenchemist my daughter applied over a month ago and hasn’t received an email concerning her Gibson account. Should I be concerned? (She applied with the Common App)

No. I cannot remember for sure, but they might not start assigning the accounts until October, when they start seriously reviewing the early applications. Give it another week or so, then check with admissions. @TexasMom0321

@fallenchemist do you recommend uploading a nicely written resume to my application or just using the extracurricular blanks provided on the online application?

Tulane has said in the past that either is fine, @eb1172, so if you have your resume ready (as it sounds like you do!) I would use it.

Very nervous to hear back from Tulane! I submitted my application on Dec 31st for RD, and I’m getting worried now. Any ideas when I might hear from them? Or anything I can do post-application submission to help my chances?
