Tulane Alumni Interview ED 2022

So, my D applied ED and when she received email asking if she wanted an alumni interview, she responded YES immediately. That was on October 10th, and a classmate of hers who applied EA and who responded to that email at least a week later already was contacted by a rep and has a scheduled interview. D emailed Corrine Watson (whom she had just met a week prior at her high school) and asked if this was an oversight and expressed concern and reiterated her desire to have any opportunity to prove her love for the school… No response. She is now wondering if it is meaningless or a bad sign…help?

It’s not that simple and it’s not a bad sign. There can be many reasons why your daughter has not heard back. The website did say to wait three weeks before contacting them. Why not have your daughter call them? I would assume that Ms. Watston’s email inbox is pretty flooded right now.

thanks; she called the admissions office and the person with whom she spoke indicated that things are delayed. We just thought it odd that a classmate who had applied EA and not ED had heard. Assuming a local alum was given names of all early applicants from one town but maybe not…

Still waiting to receive an email from my interviewer. A week ago the admissions office let me know that their emails had gone to spam and that the interviewer would get in touch with me shortly. Still haven’t heard back, and I’m an ED applicant, too. It’s admission time, they’re super busy, so it’s not a bad sign. Just probably a bit overwhelmed.

My daughter is in the same boat. She applied ED and a classmate who applied EA already had an interview. She is yet to hear back from an alumni. She put in her reply for an interview a little over 2 weeks ago.

Hi! So I got my confirmation that I was registered for the alumni interview program back on September 30th… I hadn’t heard back 2 weeks later so I emailed the rep in charge of it. She told me things were delayed and to expect some lag time. I heard back from my alumni last week, over a month after I applied for the program. Your daughter shouldn’t stress about it, they’re definitely behind.

I’m an alumni interviewer. I’m conducting an interview this week and was just assigned to do another one yesterday, which I will try and schedule for next. I guess the point of this post was that they’re still assigning applicants to alumni, so a bit behind. This is the first year this is happening, so delays and oversights should be expected.

Thanks everyone; we assumed it was just delays but given all of the angst, thought we would ask around…

@DBB6599, @naf619 - I have updates on the Alumni Interview details - hope this helps:

If you have requested an interview and have yet to hear back, check your spam folder (especially if you are using Gmail).
If you are an ED applicant who requested an interview more than a couple weeks ago, and have yet to hear back, you should email your Tulane admission counselor.

If you are an EA applicant who requested an interview then you don’t need to do anything - they are still matching alumni with applicants.

Does anyone know how beneficial it is to the admissions process and our eventual decisions?

I waited for a good bit and emailed the interview coordination, Corrine Watson, this evening. She got back to me super quick and put me in touch with someone who I could conduct it over the phone with. If you’re having issues, just reach out to her in due time!

Corrine emailed my D back on Sunday to let her know that she would be matched with someone within the week, but so far nothing. Will report back if it should come to pass…

Just to update, it has been about 10 days since Corrine Watson’s last email and STILL no contact from an interviewer. Ironically, a colleague of a relative is a Tulane alumni interviewer and offered to help. He ended up initiating his own phone “interview” with my D which went very well. It was unofficial, but I would imagine he passed along any thoughts to any interested parties.
My D is still ruminating on reasons that her official interview never occurred; hopefully she will hear good news next week and it will be water under the bridge…

Good luck to everyone

@DBB6599 - tell your daughter not to worry. This is the first year that Tulane is doing these alumni interviews, so there are bound to be glitches. I’m not sure how many interviewers that they have secured, perhaps this is a factor.

I applied ED 1 as well and was not able to get an interview, although I emailed many times asking when it would take place. The coordinator Corinne emailed once and said she would get back with me within a week and since ED decisions were sent out yesterday I guess I will not have an interview. Hope it won’t affect the admission decision and hurt my chances. Although I already have a recommendation from a family friend that is a tulane almuni.
