I think someone might have posted a thread like this already but what the heck.

One of the reasons why I love Tulane so much is NOLA, especially in this post-Katrina enviornment. How accessible is NOLA for Tulane students and do most students take advantage of the incredible opportunities that the city has to offer? Do people go off campus just to party or do people integrate meaningful work outside of campus with studies. I'm going to major in political science with a concentration on American politics so I'd love to do some interning or other work at city hall during this pivotal juncture in New Orleans' history.

Of course, I will absolutely be going off campus to do my fair share of partying. I just don't want to be around people who take NOLA's opportunities for granted.

Yes, please look at the recent thread "happy or unhappy" - this should be helpful.

Also, There is tons of meaningful work/internships off campus. My d is very involved in the "Gulf Restoration Network", (GRN) and in addition to working on many of its initiatives off campus, she also got to go to a rally for John Edwards and GRN also participated in Voodoofest (a smaller version of Jazzfest) that drew 150K people. Also, as a member of Hillel, they do alot in the community. Based on what I have observed, you will find more on- campus and off-campus opportunities that you will know what to do with, if you choose that path.

Honestly, Tulane is great, but the best part of it is NOLA. I chose to bring my car down my first year and park it off campus. Best decision that I have ever made. It helps a lot. But, the city is completely accessible w/o a car. And you will meet upperclassmen with cars which helps as well.
