Given that Tulane accepts transfer students on a rolling basis, should I apply for Spring 2008 admission early... like beginning of August? Or is this too soon?

what are your stats?

It is always wise to apply to universities that admit on a rolling basis as early as possible. If the school accepts applications in August and you can put together a strong one in that time frame, apply early. Good luck.

3.9 @ C.C. in Liberal Arts(60 credits), 1210 SAT... PTK, plus officer of two clubs, Military awards, work full time as well (real strong in the ECs). As well as an A.A.S degree from the Air Force.
SAT scores suck, but cant retake in time for spring transfers... oh well.

What in your opinions what would make for a strong application package?

I was planning on sending a resume, copy of various awards (PTK, military...ect) Recommendations from employer and unit commander... but what else?

depends what community college, if its regionally accredited or not...depends on what classes youve taken and what ones will transfer...tulane is ridiculously hard to get into now after this year due to a super high retention rate now and one of the largest freshman classes they have had in the schools history...there are a bunch of 3.7, and 3.8 transfer gpa's that got rejected this year

jayhawk I don't know why you go around spouting this nonsense. Tulane is not ridiculously hard to get into. Very few schools are "ridiculously hard" to transfer into, and the ones that are are pretty much composed of universities in the top 15 and LACs in the top 5. In 2005, Tulane had nearly an 80% transfer rate. I've heard rumors (nothing substantiated) that the transfer rate is going to be around 25-30% for last year and will probably remain the same in the coming years. Either way, Tulane is not ridiculously hard to transfer into. It does not have the competition that HYS have, nor the transfer acceptance rate. It is a good school, but let's be honest here. A 3.9 from a community college, great ECs (as this person has), and an SAT within the midrange of incoming freshman make Cash4601 a good match for Tulane. I can understand supporting and loving your school but there's a difference between that and trying to scare people out of applying / making up things.

FWIW, I emailed Tulane out of curiosity and received this response the next day. I must say they're very nice and prompt:

Hello,

I was wondering what the overall transfer admission rate was last year. Thanks.

XXXXXX,

We do not have statistics on what percentage of students are accepted as transfers. To quote our transfer coordinator, "all students who are eligible are accepted."

If you have any other questions, please feel free to e-mail us back.

And then he sent one more reply:

XXXXXX,

Sorry to e-mail you again, but someone informed me that we actually do have that statistic. Our acceptance rate for transfers is 82%.

So whatever the rate truly is, Tulane is not ridiculously hard to get into. It's a very good school that happens to be transfer friendly. Join the club and stop trying to make your school look exclusive.

exactly, that was 2005 right after hurricane katrina because everyone left the school!! it is super low now because of the huge incoming freshman class and high retention rate in the previous year

If that is the case, why would that person tell me that "all students who are eligible are accepted." It sounds like a consistent deal to me. All I'm saying is that if you're going to tell everyone it's near impossible to get into Tulane now, some proof would be nice. There are quite a few people on here interested in transferring to Tulane and it's not worth scaring them out of it if it's not as tough as you make it out to be. I've contacted admissions as a prospective student and been told that all who are eligible are accepted. I'll take their word for it and am glad to see that such a good school is transfer friendly.

all who are eligible are accepted, meaning if they are eligible...eligibility means super high gpa, spots left for them to transfer into, etc

Typically, top schools say that most of their applicants are eligible but they can only take so many. If one considers the meaning to be the same, then eligibility simply means that you can handle the academics at Tulane. However you want to look at it is fine. I'm not going to debate something this silly. I just want prospective students like Cash to realize that they do have a chance at Tulane. If you can bring up any proof that Tulane's transfer admissions are now "ridiculously hard," I'd be glad to see it. ;) Until then, I'll take the admissions officer's word over yours.

what do you expect them to say? no don't apply because there aren't many spots available....of course they are going to be encouraging...

I knew Tulane was relatively easy to transfer into.... any proof of admissions being, "ridiculously hard," yet?

I think you have a good shot, Cash. I got in with a 3.3 from a state school AND got a 14,000/yr scholarship. As long as you give a great reason for wanting to transfer to Tulane in your essay, you're in.
