Tulane Class of 2023

DD accepted!!! 31 ACT. 3.5 UW (HUGE upward trend - freshman year didn’t go so well). Tons of demonstrated interest -visited and alum interview. She rocked the essays - really loves Tulane. And I know had a great teacher rec as well.

Deferred!!! omgggggg… TULANE is such a great school
4.3 w gpa
1370 SAT
did the optional essay

@greenicecream The deadlines for those scholarships have passed (December 5th), or are you asking if the fact you already submitted the scholarships helps you in RD? If Tulane is really your first choice you can always go for EDII. Or follow all the instructions here. I was told in the past that applying for the scholarships does not necessarily show “demonstrated interest”.

@klossyy - you do not need to be accepted into Freeman. If you want to be in the Business program, you just declare a business major. There is no separate application process or requirements to be in Freeman. So - Congrats! U r in the Freeman School of Business. (I’m a mom of a 2013 Freeman graduate who is currently working in a private equity firm in NYC)

Reflection
Strengths: My Common app essay was personal and showed me as a person but also put my education system into perspective. Great letters of recommendation. I got my English teacher to write one because she knew me for 4 years (2 as sponsor of a club I held office & another 2 as AP English teacher plus sponsor)
Weaknesses: low SAT? I submitted my ACT which was high enough I believe.
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Demonstrated intrinsic motivation to learn. Showed why I like Tulane.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: deferred from UChicago. I find out about Case Western tonight. Im applying to some other schools
Where do you expect you will attend and why? not sure, I would need full scholarship to attend Tulane because my family is not able to contribute towards my cost of attendance. I appreciate Tulane accepting me and giving me this opportunity to consider them!

Congrats to all who got in. For deferred students, the right school is out there for you!! Tulane really really cares about yield and has made some changes to merit vs need-based aid.

“We have this really strange balance of very smart kids and, quite frankly, a lot of kids who are very stupid that come from very wealthy families and can afford to go here”

Good idea however an interesting way to say it …

^^^ Can anyone comment on my stats and info and give your opinion if I would be a decent applicant for Top 20 schools, including all the Ivies. Would I have a chance of getting in?

I’m in the same position wondering the same thing …

deferred

UW gpa 3.9
sat 1330

lots of impressive extracurriculars, including leadership, and service
all honors and AP classes

I think I messed up by not demonstrating interest (no interview, no campus visit, emailed my rep once, etc).
Also kind of half assed one of the supplemental essays thinking I’d get in to my ED school (whoops!)

Deferred
ACT: 34
GPA: 3.95 UW 5.1 WEIGHTED
AMAZING EC

I did not do why Tulane supplement though, so that is probably why I was deferred.

Deferred. Applied to Paul tulane and DHS. I did both essays. 32 and 4.0 :frowning:

Does anyone know if housing is affected by the date you accept and submit deposit?

DD accepted
32 ACT, 3.64 UW GPA, good EC
visited from NJ, loved school, so happy she was accepted!!!

Son was deferred.
1510 SAT (one sitting)
4.2 GPA
Alumni interview
OOS
Nat Merit commendable scholar
Decent but prob not enough EC

No visit as Tulane piqued his interest in the fall & his HS has strict attendance policy.
Disappointed as Tulane was his number one choice. Prob did not emphasize that enough.

@UNCjay Maybe they thought you were too good?

Anyone else get Spring Honors acceptance for Jan 2020, as my daughter did? This is our first, so not really sure what to make of it. I guess it’s not as good as regular acceptance but better than deferment? She is disappointed anyway. I’ll be spending some time looking into it. Appreciate any feedback on those familiar with it.

@marcymar - Thanks for this story…very happy to hear she’s thriving at BU! I have several friends/family members who are former Terriers and they all loved it.

My daughter has a few more schools that she’s waiting on and while not giving up hope just yet on the deferrals, she says she’s prepared for a denial and will be happy at another school she’s been accepted to that we toured last month and really liked, as well. Not her first choice but certainly a place that she could see herself at.

Like you and others have said - she’ll find the right fit and do great wherever she ends up.

Best of luck to everyone!

Wahoo! Just got an email asking DD to check her admission status. Accepted with 15k merit money. Female, Hispanic, Engineering, strong testing scores.

Sorry, is called Spring Scholars program, not Honors
