What were her stats if you don’t mind sharing?
Accepted into cell and molecular biology! 3.55 uw 3.8 w, 29 ACT. Lots of good extracurriculars and fairly strong essays. 10/10 teacher recs.
Congrats! Merit money?
No, no merit money. I am hoping for some scholarship money though.
Tulane is notorious for not giving much merit money in the ED round. @calitulane23 merit money is scholarship money. They award it with your acceptance.
Tulane uses ED to “squeeze” not only a high yield but maximize full price tuitions. If you live in a state with a top 50 flagship you would be much better off attending there and save your family about 160k to use for graduate school or seed money for your investment portfolio.
@PvtEqty “Tulane uses ED to “squeeze” not only a high yield but maximize full price tuitions”
So in your opinion does it makes more sense to apply non-binding Early Action to receive more merit money?
My friend and I both got automatic admissions. She got 19k and I got 10k bc my major is more popular at Tulane.
thectguy - 3.53 GPA, 1540 SAT (LD diagnosed end of tenth grade which may explain relatively “low” GPA), about half of his classes are Honors/AP, some EC, not a lot except four years of one sport and captain plus part time job. Pretty good essays. Hope that helps.
@socaldad2002 yes. If you’re looking for merit, don’t apply ED to Tulane. Doesn’t mean you won’t receive any but your chances will be better in the EA round.
Yes but if you really want to go to Tulane and cost is not a factor your odds will greatly improve by going ED. A friend of mine threw a Hail Mary pass to get his son into another top school by going ED. His son was on the low end of the SAT score averages…it worked but he is paying full freight (55k tuition).
So excited for everyone! Congrats to all! I’m a current parent and am so happy to see another group of great kids coming in!!
EA applicants that we know are starting to get acceptances!
To collegemom9 – Are you saying that you know of some EA applicants (versus ED) that are starting to get acceptances? My understanding is that all EA decisions would come out at once sometime probably in mid-December. (Last year it was on December 17th I believe.)
Yes I know 2 people including one of our best friends that heard a few minutes ago. EA.
Wow! That’s exciting. I wonder when my child will hear. Do you know when they submitted their applications by chance?
Wow! Didn’t know it was possible to hear from EA so soon. I applied EA around October 15th and just checked my portal and there’s no status update.
The Admissions Director’s blog post from six days ago says “most” EA decisions will be mailed in mid-December. As mentioned above, last year they came out on December 17th. So suspect that if anyone is hearing about EA, they are not part of the “most.” But maybe they changed their mind!
Wow! EA already? Yesterday I discovered that the college board hadn’t processed the SAT score send. (I think it’s been more than a week) Sent them again rush. Doubt we will have any news!
Can I assume these were super high stat kids?
Seems likely. Anyone else hear of EA letters going out to applicants (i.e., not ED letters)?
