Tulane class of 2024- chance of acceptances?

I am a current senior in the DFW metroplex. I’ve just applied to Tulane via Early Action. I’ve chosen to go in as undecided, as I’m not 100% sure what I really want to do. But right now I’m looking to see if I have a good chance at getting!

I am a white female with a 4.0 unweighted GPA, with a 4.7465 weighted GPA. I am ranked number 12 out of 691 student in my class. In total, I’ve taken 12 AP classes and received 4’s and 5’s on my exams. My standardized testing scores aren’t my strong suit, as I received a 29 on my ACT which superscored to a 31. Unfortunately, Tulane doesn’t superscore so we will see what happens due to my scores. Hoping that this doesn’t completely ruin my chances of getting in.

I’ve been involved in marching band and concert band all four years of high school. All four years I’ve been placed in the top concert band, also known as the honors band, and this year I am 1st chair Bb clarinet within my program. I’ve been selected as a member of the all-region band each year of high school as well. This year we were awarded the National 6A Wind Band Honor Winner of the Mark of Excellence project by the Foundation for Music Education. Hopefully that counts for something! Last year I selected to be in the pit for our school musical, Phantom of Opera. I’ve received all 1s for solo and ensemble contests during high school.

I am also a part of the marching band at my school. I’ve been on the SLT (student leadership team) within my marching band since sophomore year( this basically means I’m a section leader). Junior year I was a drum major, the person who conducts the marching band, and this year I am head drum major. This year I was also chosen as my districts first scholar artist. I was nominated by my director and then chosen by those in the district.

I am also a part of NCL (National Charity League) which is an all women service organization. My junior year I was elected as the Vice President of Philanthropy and this year I was elected as the Vice President of Programs. Within this organization I do lots of service hours, as well as coordinating and facilitating meetings for my chapter.

My other extracurricular that don’t take up very much of my time would be National Honors Society as well as Word Search Club, which is just a club that I go to for fun.

I really hope I’m able to get a good response back to this, as Tulane is my dream school!!!I’ve showed a lot of demonstrated interest, which is good for a school like Tulane. I’ve visited campus, gone to the information session in my area, I wrote the optional “why tulane” essay, I’m applying early action, and I contacted my admissions counselor telling her that this is my top choice but I cannot apply Early Decision as I don’t have the money. I just really hope I get in, that would be the dream. Good luck to anyone else applying early action or early decision and I wish you all the best. Remember that if you don’t get in, it isn’t the end of the world. It may seem like it, but it isn’t. We will all end up where we are supposed to be :).

Great attitude and I love that you wrote in complete sentences (you’d be surprised!).

Best of luck to you! (I don’t know anything about Tulane so I can’t comment on your chances.)

I think you have an excellent chance. The only thing holding you back is the ACT, which I’m sure you know. But I think your grades will more than make up for it.

With your passion for music and your high AP scores and GPA, you have shot. Because Tulane has become more selective, I don’t think anyone has a guaranteed assurance of getting in. The ACT score might impact the merit, however. If you don’t get a sizable merit scholarship will you be able to go?

Thank you! Unfortunately if I don’t receive a sizable merit scholarship, or just any scholarship in general, I probably won’t be able to attend Tulane. That’ll definitely hurt, as Tulane costs more than my mom makes in a year, but I can’t do much about it. Even if I’m not able to attend, it would still be awesome to get in.

Thank you for the comment! Hopefully I’ll get in!

Thank you! I feel as if it’s best to keep a positive mindset when it comes to college applications, as you have no idea what will happen. It’s better to boost yourself up than to throw yourself down and say you have no chance of getting in. Hopefully I’ll receive an acceptance letter on December 20th! Fingers crossed!

Did you do the “optional” Why Tulane essay? (it’s really not optional…). Your NCL should show a lot of volunteer hours so that will help as well. These days it’s hard to know what GPA and ACT score will get you in. I would say you have a decent chance though. Good Luck!

Hello all! I submitted my application on October 1st, and I finished applying for two scholarships, the Paul Tulane and the Community Service Fellowship. I got an email from Tulane later inviting me to look at my Gibson portal for financial aid, but there is no way to check your status, it only shows Tulane news. Has anyone else had this experience? I’m wondering if I just have to wait a while for the portal to update with my info. Best of luck to all of us applying!

Like what most have said, you have amazing grades and scores. hope you get in. Good luck!
