Tulane deferred me. I'm really confused.

■■■■■ alert …

I’m not upset at all, and don’t want to add to the whining, but this topic makes me feel a lot more at ease.

I applied to Tulane just for the heck of it… it was a free application, and I have a friend that goes and loves it.

32 ACT
Ranked 2 of 550
4.576 weighted GPA / 4.0 unweighted
Senior class president/student council president
10 years swim team, 4 years varsity, two years team captain

Thought that would get me in pretty easily… sort of shocked me. I was initially extremely worried that my application was weak for some reason and that is why I was deferred but after reading this I’m slightly more at ease.

as1592 - Good that you are feeling better about it. Strange year for Tulane. Any other year you would be on here talking about the great merit scholarship you already got. You have absolutely great stats and non-academic pursuits.

it’s because you got a 630 math, no other reason, i got a 690 math and 72o cr and 720 writing, and i have a 3.6 UW, 8 AP classes, in cluding Physics C, and Calc, and i have 5 varsity letters in wrestling and track, i’m a thespian, and i have infinity^2 volunteer hours logged, however i did not get into GA tech, when i asked an admissions counselor, he said he could only see that because it’s an engineering based school, they must have desired a more impressive math score. =/

@ Shmiedler - LOL, it is not because of the 630 in math, or at least you cannot say that it is. There are people that got deferred with much higher scores, and some that got in with that or a bit lower. As stated many times, Tulane is just having to be very careful this year because of space constraints, and so is having to wait and see with many candidates but not because of their qualifications.

I would have thought you’d have a great chance at Georgia Tech. I assure you though, I have absolutely no intention of becoming an engineer (or going to a school with “tech” in the name- for the same reason.) I would like to improve my math score though. Pacing is hard for me when it comes to math.

I’m sure it’s other factors that sorted my app. into the deferred pile. It’s probably a combination of factors. I’ll send them my new grades and see what I can do to improve my chances of getting in for regular decision.

I think it has to do with how early everyone applied - I go to a very competitive, nationally ranked high school and almost everyone applied for an easy “safety” to go along with their Ivy applications. I have decent test scores and a solid GPA and i got in with a scholarship, but literally everyone who applied to Tulane in November got in with 20,000$ scholarships. Now, kids who are even more qualified are getting deferred.

LOL, I know from your other posts that is your impression, but I can promise you that is very far from the truth. As I have stated before, if you go by CC you are getting a very biased view. The fact is that a rather small minority get merit scholarships at all.

my friend told me today there was an article in idk what newspaper that said this year anyone who applied after nov 1st to tulane automatically got deferred bc they filled their quota!!!

brit … while that “may” be true, the truth is unless one were to produce that article, it is no better than any rumor. Perhaps a bit or research on your part to provide a link? Otherwise, it’s not doing anyone much good.

Incidentally, a quick google search on the combination of words “tulane november application quota defer” returns NO links to any newspaper articles or other sites purporting to make the claim from your friend.

That is not true. Two close friends of mine and myself applied the day of or the day before the nov 15th deadline. All three of us were accepted.

@brit8910, I applied on the November 15th deadline at like 8pm. I have a 34 ACT and am in the top 2% of my class that sends plenty of kids to Ivies every year. I got in with a $25,000 scholarship.
I did write the optional essay though… maybe that shows some interest?

hmmm sorry! guess she was wrong! just thought id put that out there, i didnt think she’d get the article wrong ahhaa. she must have told me wrong info:/
