Does Deferred decisions all get released the same day the way ED and EA do or do they roll out in a wave? Do you receive an email ? What date has it been in past?

well, its interesting because some people are saying that they were deferred EA but recently were notified that they were accepted. Sounds like rolling but the website definitely doesn’t mention that. Also, some people just noticed that there is a change to their gibson portals and they are wondering what that means.I have the change too but I dont think it means anything.

Rolling for everyone with different end-points (depending on which application round) it seems…

From Tulane’s Application Status page:

“We release admission decisions as they become available, up to the notification deadline for each application period (December 15th for Early Decision applicants, January 15th for Early Action applicants, and April 1st for Regular Decision applicants). It is important to remember that this means some students will receive their admission decision at different times than others. Therefore, the order in which applicants receive their admission decision is not reflective of the decision itself. Applicants should not assume they have been admitted or denied if they know of someone else that has received a decision before them.”

so if you are deferred from EA and rolled into RD, they roll them out between now and April 1st?

Last week they sent my daughter an email asking how likely she was to attend Tulane. I wonder if it’s the answers to that email that are freeing up spots for the deferred EA?

mardonna90265 Yes, that is my understanding from the website and posts from prior years here on CC.

My name is Jeff Selingo. I am a contributor to The Washington Post, and author of a forthcoming book on college admissions from Simon & Schuster. I have received permission from College Confidential to post here. I am interested in interviewing students (or their parents) about demonstrated interest at Tulane. I’m seeking those who feel their son or daughter’s demonstrated interest (or lack there of) might have played a role in either their acceptance or deferral in EA at Tulane. If this is you (or your child), please describe what he/she did or didn’t do in this thread below or contact me at jeff.selingo@washpost.com

If you agree to an interview, your name (or your child’s) and other identifying details will not be used.

Decision: Accepted with 22k Founders Scholarship and Honors College

Objective:
SAT I: didn’t send in
ACT (breakdown): 36 English, 36 Reading, 32 Science, 28 Math
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.7
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): We don’t do either percentile or rank but I suppose top 20%
AP : AP Wolrd (5), AP Lang (5), APush (5)
Senior Year Course Load: Honors precalculus, Honors Physics, AP Euro, AP Latin, AP literature
Major Awards: AP Scholar, NLE awards (summa cum laude and magna cum laude)

Extracurriculars : NJCL (basically a nationwide classics organization, held a major leadership position and devoted tons of time to community service), varsity volleyball, self-teaching languages, study exchange in Japan, only high-school intern at a high-profile Democratic Congressmen’s campaign
Volunteer/Community service: NJCL activities, teaching English and building in the DR
Jobs/Summer Activities: Tons of traveling over the summer to Europe (parents are foreign), NJCL national convention prep
Counselor Rec: One from my latin teacher which was most likely a 9/10, and one from my AP world teacher which was definitely at least an 8.5/10
Why Tulane question: Talked about how Tulane students choose to give back and the resilience of New Orleans, a 9/10 imo

State : Florida
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female
Income Bracket: 150K+
Hooks: Unique major, international experience, legacy (kinda), LGBT, major political involvement

Reflection
Strengths: I had an amazing personal essay detailing my health issues and how I overcame them. I also had dedicated extracurriculars with leadership positions, as well as experience abroad (I plan to do international relations and classics)
Weaknesses: Low GPA for sure (due to health reasons)
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I honestly have no idea, I genuinely thought it was a sick joke at first. In retrospect I did have a really genuine Why Tulane essay, and i feel that Tulane looked at me as a whole person and appreciated what I have overcome.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Rejected Dartmouth ED and UT Austin, accepted UH Manoa, FSU, and UF. Currently awaiting USC and Colby College
Where do you expect you will attend and why?: I will most likely be attending Tulane due to the honors college offer and available mental health services. If I get into Colby that would definitely be a contender, but I still prefer Tulane atm

General Comments: I’m still surprised I got in. It was really heartbreaking to be rejected from my first choice because I really felt like I had let myself and my family down, but getting into Tulane was an eye-opener and helped me realize that universities were able to look beyond my mental health issues and consider me as a person.
