@antiquedealmom thanks. I couldn’t find the original post (there are so many posting right now). See it now. Thanks!
Daughter Accepted. OOS. No Merit.
3.8 UW/4.4 Weighted. Did not submit SAT scores.
Great ECs
Strong Why Tulane Essay
Visited/toured campus
Tons of demonstrated Interest
Also applied for Paul Tulane Scholarship
deferred!
but accepted early action to Colorado College and seven other universities… interesting
I did not apply for Paul scholarship as I want leave it to OOS applicants.
What’s the difference in the letter between denied and deferred?
Deny starts with “Sorry” and defer starts with “Great news for you…” I guess.
will say in the letter.
Just an fyi, Tulane is notorious for deferring, even applicants with extremely high stats. They seem fixated on yield. That’s why they push for ED2 and focus so much on demonstrated interest. This is true more so of Tulane than many other schools. This is my second time going through this, so I was fully expecting a deferral and tried to prepare my son for it. All of this to emphasize that it doesn’t mean much about your child or their odds elsewhere. I’m not sure I’d consider Tulane a “match” school for anyone. It’s truly and unpredictable process.
deferred lol. does anyone know what this means for the main scholarship apps? (Paul tulane, deans etc)
The Admission Committee has now completed its review of your application for admission to Tulane University. In deliberations about the candidates for admission, the committee carefully measures the academic and personal qualifications of each student seeking admission to Tulane. As a result of the increasingly competitive level of the applicant pool, we are able to accept only a portion of the students who apply to Tulane. Regretfully, you were not among those students selected for admission to the university.
The Admission Committee recognizes your disappointment that we are unable to honor your request for admission at this time, and we certainly do appreciate your interest in attending Tulane University. The Office of Undergraduate Admission trusts in your ability to succeed as you continue your education and offers best wishes as you pursue your college career.
This is denied right?
Yeah Sorry
Tulane truly pushes the ED thing. Some of us don’t want to take the leap!
Oh well. Their loss!
D21 deferred
Sister is a sophmore
3.91 UW/ 5.03 W
test optional
Top 10% of class
Good ECs I think?, Job for last 18 months
Visited to see sister but did not do official tour
A few virtual events, one in person event
She is definitely disappointed but feeling a little better after hearing about all of the kids with great stats who got deferred. Her friend who is val and NMF even got deferred.
Agreed.
First of all, congratulations to all who were excepted. My son was deferred today he hasn’t done really any demonstrated interest other than a couple virtual things and we are out of state pretty far away. No legacies at all so I’m not really surprised. 3.97 unweighted GPA, space 35 ACT, space lots of leader ship, did the Y to Lane essay which I think was his best
I’m in the same boat—I got deferred and applied to all of those and would need merit scholarships to attend the school. Apparently, in the past some but very few deferred applicants have gotten those scholarships, so I’m not losing hope entirely but I’m a bit concerned nonetheless haha. Good luck!
I got accepted OOS w/ $15k!!! Still in shock right now and it’s been over an hour haha.
SAT: 1460 (730 CRW / 730 M)
GPA: 3.86UW / 4.24 Weighted
APs: Euro (3), APUSH (5), Lang (4), Comp Sci Prin, Chem, Psych
Current APs: Gov, Lit, Calc AB
Class Rank: 10/731, Top 5% (large public in SoCal)
Date Applied: 10/31
Decision/School: ACCEPTED w/ $15k!
Major: History
Date Received: 12/17
ECs: There are nowhere near as stellar as some other applicants, which is why I’m surprised. Many of my ECs had to do with screenwriting/filmmaking, history, and volunteering. I didn’t win any major awards at all (AP Scholar, Band, Girls State Alternate).
Essays: I think this was my strong suit. I almost used up all 800 words for the “Why Tulane?” essay and I spoke specifically about how Tulane’s marching band has a front ensemble and drumline (as many universities don’t have front ensembles).
Interest: Lots of demonstrated interest. Attended four virtual events and PreviewTU. Had an admissions interview (which I didn’t think was great). I also applied for the Dean’s Honor Scholarship.
deferred, really good Ec’s 9 varsity letters, nationally ranked speech and debater, a part of non-profit, tap dance outside of school for 10 years, tons of demonstrated interest, interviewed, but qualified as an international student, (from CA)
Thank you! This was the first school we have heard from so it was bittersweet.
if deferred I assume im no longer considered for Paul tulane award? can anyone confirm this
