My daughter was accepted !

Chicago public high school
33 ACT (from spring of soph year)
upward trend and complicated grades but applied with a 3.5 unweighted/ 4.6 weighted
10AP/ 3 dual enrolment
all demonstrated interest took place in our basement during COVID shut down but I think she interviewed and attended many info sessions
$16k merit

To balance things out what she had that wasn’t so good:

many many C’s for beginning high school classes including Algebra, Chem, French
C’s in Stats and AlgII/Trig

No pre-calc; only 3 years of foreign language; many ‘soft’ electives such as music and drama every year.

Accepted! A few hours before decisions came out, I noticed the CSS was showing as received for the first time. I tried not to get my hopes up, but was excited for him. I still don’t know if it was a coincidence or not, but we’re SO excited!

Hi! I just got accepted with a 12k merit based scholarship. I have a 3.6 UW and 4.0 W GPA, 1480 SAT, campus visit, and lots of demonstrated interest (but no interview). I also had a lot of ECs and an upward trend in grades. My Why Tulane essay was very strong, which
I believe is the biggest factor.

Based on all the responses, it seems like Tulane acceptances were given to the candidates who are most likely to commit.

So many candidates with totally stellar stats were deferred. May be Tulane AOs thought that these kids may end up going to other top Univs and are unlikely to join Tulane.

It is a bummer to seem so many deferred candidates with beyond steller stats. Clearly something has changed big time this year for Tulane.

Congratulations to all the kids who got accepted today. Tulane is a great school!

Is it worth it to ED2???

Daughter accepted! $15k/yr and honors program…

  • 3.97 UW, 4.2 W
  • 5 APs
  • no scores
  • lots of EC and DI, good Why Tulane

ED.
There is no other way, sorry.

Partial tuition merit aid is automatically considered with your app, but some competitive full tuition/ride scholarships require a separate app.

ED II will surely get in but scholarship will be less than expected. Google “Tulane guarantee” and use that as a reference. ED II means you are ready to pay.

I feel the deadline of them already passed.

In state applicants obviously got much more chances.

Do the letter of continued interest, and update them with any new test scores or accomplishments. You can ask to maybe zoom with your counselor or send them an email with specifics about interest. I would read the post on the dean of admission’s blog about what to do if deferred (it’s somewhere earlier in this post). Your stats are amazing and accomplishments are really amazing, shocked you got rejected!

You’re correct, they have. Only one very specific one is still open I think.

That says in state. We are not in state

Thanks for the advice! Hoping it works out.

why does that matter since tulane is a private institution?

My daughter was deferred from Georgetown and accepted to Tulane Honors with Distinguished Scholars Award of $26K/year. Just goes to show that there’s no way to know what’s going to happen… Sad to see talented kids getting deferred, but it’s not over yet!
