If pre-med with high stats (typical stats are 35+ ACT and 3.8+ GPA, but Iām unsure if the programās test-optional this year), I strongly recommend applying to Tulaneās Pathways to Medicine Program, which is a 4+4 BS/MD program with the Tulane School of Medicine. Though the website states that students will be invited to apply, thereās nothing wrong with reaching out to the listed AO in charge to let Admissions know youāre interested. I was an EA admit last year, but the wording on the website implies that RD applicants could be considered as well, though contact Admissions to be certain.
Applications for the program release and are due in January, interview invites are sent in February, and interviews occur in March during Honors Weekend (though they were virtual this year due to COVID).
Where are you from? My son was deferred from ED1 school and accepted with Merit EA to Tulane. Also underrepresented state. I see your Penn logoā¦my older son attends Penn
Does anyone see aid (not merit) information? Letter says to check Gibson portal but nothing new there. No outstanding āto doā items. All materials were already submitted or downloaded some time ago.
Nebraska. My D21 looked at Penn, mainly because of the legacy bump, but itās not a good fit for her. She loves that you can minor in ASL at Penn and work with students at the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf. My D knows sheād get lost in a school that big and sheās focusing on LACs. She applied to Tulane because she needed an EA school that was still within the deadline (she has been very slow at getting her applications done). I hope your son is enjoying Penn!

Why Tulane Essay
I have heard that a friend of my parents, her daughter was admitted into this 8-year program. Because after you are in, there is no more application to Med school nor MCAT test, the interview/competition for entering this program are extremely hard. And it took her 7-8 hours for an interview.
You do have to take the MCAT, but scores arenāt used for admission, so theyāre a non-issue. The interview happens during Honors Weekend, which on-campus is 2 days full of informative events and info-sessions etc. The actual interview is not during the entire session, only for 30 minutes since they have to get through multiple students. Again, I interviewed in March when the COVID situation was starting to get worse, so my experience might be different from those in the past.
Does anyone know when financial aid will come out through Gibson? My portal is still showing that they need my admissions decision but thatās the only item on my To Do List

Iām guessing they deferred so many of us because of uncertainty surrounding the pandemic (the more kids they can get to switch to ED2 the better).
Did your sister have an outside job in high school? Did you? A few years ago I heard that Tulane prefers students with what they referred to as āgritā that had outside employment during high school. Everyone from our high school that got in that year had the same stats as all the deferred kids here, but they all also held an outside job (that wasnāt babysitting or mowing laws for cash). Volunteering did not count as an outside job, even if it was 20 hours a week.
