I am seriously/curiously wanting to know how many admitted applicants are test-optional? Can someone make a poll? Thanks.
I think all good scholarships from Tulane are called āFull-tuition Scholarshipā. Look at this chart below and you will see only the tuition ($50780) will be covered, and you need to pay the rest.
Fee | Cost |
---|---|
Tuition | $50,780 |
Books and Supplies | $1,200 |
Other Fees | $4,040 |
Room and Board | $15,190 |
Other Expenses Budget | $1,086 |
Do not go $240k into debt for Tulane! That is crazy!
Find another school. Iām sorry, but Tulane is not worth it! Look at an in state public school or a private school where you get great merit!
What is the major you are interested in?
I would certainly think twice before EDing to Tulane. A debt of $240k is insane and not worth it at all!
Not just Tulane, no school is worth that amount of debt. And if parents co-sign for that (the only way a student can obtain that amount in loans), they are sentencing their child to a lifetime of that burden. Donāt do it.
So far, maybe only Med School or Law School worth that much debt.
Many of the doctors and lawyers I know would tell you no. Neither profession makes as much these days as they used to and if they were facing that decision now, knowing what they now know, say they would be forced to make a different decision.
My son was accepted EA, Honors Scholars, $15k scholarship, didnāt submit test scores, but an architecture major, so I believe the portfolio carried a lot of weight.
GPA 4.0 HS doesnāt rank or weight
7 APs,
NHS, NHS-Art, NHS-Foreig Language, AP Scholar
Dual enrollment and Summer Arch program 4.0 in all these classes
Same summer job for three years, with promotion
ECs ok, 3 season athlete (not D1)
Lots of DI, visited campus, applied to Paul Tulane & Deanās Scholarships
CA resident deferred with little interest. I advised her to apply since it was at no cost to me, and it would just give her more potential options come May.
Stats
4.13 w gpa with community service, starting varsity athlete.
She received notification a while back asking if she wanted to apply ED and asked for
more information.
I believe Tulane is accepting a handful of students from each state as
They wish to diversify their school. Iād suggest deferred, accepted and rejected students add where they are from. Good luck to all.
I was planning to double major in neuroscience and social policy and practice.
Ya I ummm acted on emotion and already submitted the EDII form and Iām rethinking my decisions. But I really want this you know?
Oh God. I messed up huh.
If I was deferred EA, does this mean I no longer qualify for the Paul Tulane or Deanās honor scholarships? I did the continued interest stuff, but still
I hope you discussed this thoroughly with your parents. $240k loan is not a joke and could take up to a decade to pay off depending on what career path you take.
From your major, looks like you may have an idea to do Medicine. If so, thats going to cost you a huge amount too. I dont know if anything can be done now, but i would seriously consider a lower cost in-state education.
@ DentalDad - Deferred from So. California
this is what im wondering
Ya! So I brought it up with my parents and honestly, they can care less lol. Iāve kinda parented myself but thatās beside the point. From my grandma, who financially supports me, Iāll be getting 20K or so per year from her, have a few grand saved up from gifts and birthdays and stuff (which are reserved for traveling back and forth and basic costs), I also got a job recently and they pay well so another few grand from there (if I work from January to July), and the rest Iām banking on scholarships, and if Tulane is nice to me financially, and gives me at least 30k (need/merit) a year, Iāll only have to loan for room and board (which even after working and paying it off w/income is still around 50-60k in debt). But atm, I have no idea where I stand but like w/o any help from anyone, no scholarships, and a bad package from Tualne, itās looking like a quite hefty debt. Ugh I hate doing this alone. Sorry, this was a whole walkthrough of my thinking.
No, deferred students have won the PT in the past. Donāt think of the deferral as a rejection, just as an opportunity to demonstrate to Tulane that you are really interested in joining its community.
Up to a decade? My son has about $60,000 in loans and I think he will have them paid off in 10 years with his $750 a month payment plan. My daughter has about the same amount but is paying $1000 a month. The loans have been transferred to their names only. I canāt imagine $240,000.
Tulane is already one of the most geographically diverse schools in the country, so while they like to maintain that, they are focusing more on increasing diversity across demographic and socioeconomic variables.
I think to be fair, Tulane shall allow you to withdraw ED II without hurting your reputation, before they have made a decision. Still, it is your call. There is no way I will take $240K loan.
