I found out I was deferred on 12/17 through an email that told me to go to my Green Wave portal. I then got another email saying the same thing on 1/22.
One of my Dâs classmates, in-state, she got deferred from EDI, switch to EDII, today she received an admission with scholarship (~20k/y).
If you decide to pay, most schools will welcome you
yes
More updates: she has 3 âCâ in her transcripts, and one bad disciplinary mark. At the same time, her ACT is 35 (superscore 36), and ascending grades.
This seems strange. EDII decisions came out on 1/18 with 3 options - accepted, rejected or Spring Scholar. Weird that she got a decision yesterday after switching to EDII.
Sorry not sure when she received, we heard the news yesterday.
Her dad said any college, as long as not LSU, they will pay whatever cost. Her dad is professor with some title in LSU Vet school.
Just want to share my story here about Tulane admissions.
Iâm a fairly recent college grad from Tulane. Had a 95ish GPA from a well-respected high school, 32 ACT, applied EA, had a very creative DHS project, and I ultimately attended on the full tuition scholarship.
My younger sibling applied EA this year with the same grades as mine and a 34 on the ACT. Very very talented in their niche, many awards. By all accounts an even better candidate than I was on paper. Deferred. They remain on the continued interest list but has really put them off from the school and Iâm being supportive in the decision to mainly focus energy on the other wonderful schools theyâve been accepted to.
I love Tulane and wouldnât change my experience, but wow, have admissions changed. Sibling wouldâve had Tulane as a low match my year (nothing is certain, but people with 31+ ACTs in my HS were almost guaranteed to make the cut). Things have gotten FAR more selective and I hope nobody is taking deferral too personally. At a certain point, what theyâre looking for becomes a little random.
I think adding ED and EDII is a game changer. Binding you to a school and saying you can have no other options⊠I get that itâs good for the college because of yield, but itâs just not realistic for many members of the middle class to apply ED, who may not qualify for fully covered financial aid but still need to compare packages and not go to one dream school on a whim.
I completely agree w the putting off part. I was IN LOVE w/ Tulane, almost EDâd but didnât because Iâm middle class. I got deferred, and now Iâm just not vibing
I do wonder if colleges will realize how deferring negatively impacts students and lowers the college on student lists. Just as the colleges want to feel wanted, so do the students - and deferring makes them feel pretty unwanted. No thanks!
So just go ahead and remove the opportunity to be considered against a potentially less competitive RD pool and simply reject instead?
No, accept a reasonable amount of EA students instead of deferring the vast majority in an effort to push them to switch to ED2 and/or force them to incessantly try to demonstrate interest because youâre so obsessed with yield.
yall have to think about the fact that Tulane gets 44,000+ applicants but likes to keep class sizes to around 2000⊠they canât just accept a ton of people ea when they have no clue whether they are coming or not. itâs not so much that they are âobsessedâ with their yield rate, they are just trying to maintain numbers efficiently.
Hi! super late EA applicant, just found this post.
status: deferred from MA
GPA: 3.52 UW(school doesnât weight), 3 honors 2 AP (also undiagnosed learning disorders and gpa is now steadily rising)
Good amount of community service, okay ECs, and have been working as a waitress ~12 hours a week since sophmore year
Showed a TON of interest, interview, why tulane, paul tulane, texted w tour guide and name dropped her, and emailed w counselor.
A little confused on why I wasnât accepted, i know it is never predictable but i did think i showed enoigh demonstrated interest that they knew i want to go.
does anyone know the likiehood of getting in after being deferred? i did send a LOCI in beginning of january, and am planning on touring in february (i get the vaccine next week as i work in a nursing home, so can safely travel) Any info is super appreciated!!!
Tulane would have accepted you ED but not EA, based upon the information shared. Makes sense. Just how they do it.
So, just reject qualified EA applicants that there may be room for in the class if they compare favorably to the applicants in the RD round.
Lower stats and rigor cannot always be overcome by demonstration of interest.
I think you know that the RD pile at Tulane is incredibly strong. Give it effort, but put even more into your next choice schools. Based upon the data, that is where you might end up. I would rather be wrong, and you get in - so good luck!
