I must respectfully disagree. My D21 is also high stats - we are Texas based and she was accepted to UCLA, UC-Berkeley, Tulane, and our flagship schools UT-Austin and Texas A&M (these are the only 5 schools she applied to). She has received everything from full - tuition offers to small scholarships to no scholarships from these schools We never felt as if Tulane was playing games - she applied EA and was accepted EA. Each university has their own way of determining which students they are accepting and I donāt think it is healthy for students or parents to take it personally.
I attended 2 virtual webinars, which I actually found super informative and helpful - didnāt feel pressure to attend all of them at all. Daughter attended a few more, which also helped her learn more about Tulane.
All in all - she had a great experience with their process and we are excited to have her decide soon! Good luck to your senior!
I fully agree with having a positive experience. We attended the virtual webinars that we were interested in attending and found them not only helpful about Tulane but the entire admission process. They were very well done-very transparent and informative.
Every school has had to pivot during this remote time to engage and inform prospective students and families. I am very impressed with Tulane.
And, my daughter also got into UC Berkeley (early notification) as well as many other schools. Just visited UC Berkeley and wlll be going to Tulane next week, and then UCSD. We already know UCSB.
My daughter was deferred EA and wait-listed RD. She has applied to 13 universities. She is still waiting to hear from the two ivies to which she applied. Other than that, all acceptances except Tulane. Sheās received over $800,000 in merit scholarships. She got in to USC. I just canāt get a handle on what Tulane is looking forā¦it was her top choice, so she definitely showed interest. Anyway, she has great options but I think future applicants should know that Tulane is truly a crapshoot. Nothing personal if you donāt get in. And I say that as a mom whose son applied two years ago, was accepted with $23k/year scholarship and offered admittance to the honors program. His sister has better stats, more ECs, and comparable writing skillsā¦So, I am just saying to future applicants to know that thereās no magic formula for admission to Tulane and not to get your heart set (which is true of all schools, but IMHO Tulane in particular)ā¦
Also, to the moms who think the admission process is so positive (with Tulane), I suggest you go check out their official Tiktok. Itās a little pithy and sarcasticā¦and not too sensitive to ALL their applicantsā¦
My D has been awarded a total of $1,332,000 merit+need scholarships (for the whole undergraduate period) from 9 admitted colleges, among which Tulane provides the highest amount.
Yes, Facebook has one for the accepted students and there is also one for parents to. Super helpful to me as a parent and my D found a good roommate prospect for fall on hers.
Itās easy to understand why DD or DS would be interested in Tulane for some time. It seems like a cool place. Goldilocks size. Engaging faculty and administrators, sports on the rise, and a school with a sense of purpose and place in one of the most exciting and unique cities in the world.
I am sorry for them that it did not work out. But it sounds like your family is much happier with the options available than with what Tulane offers. Maybe thatās what the deciders sensed in waitlisting/denying.
Donāt like the communication from the school? Unsubscribe. No biggie.
Donāt want to invest the time on a zoom without the guarantee of admission, donāt sign up. No biggie.
One thing though - donāt log on for your kid and have it play in the background because you think that will tip the scales by showing demonstrated interest.
Want to go to Tulane? Understand itās ethos and the spirit is shares with New Orleans. Make sure itās commitment to service learning resonates with you. And express that in your why Tulane essay. Thatās time better than spending a few hours on a zoom.
My son was accepted EA to Tulane Honors with merit. He was also recently accepted to other universities including an Ivy (he doesnāt want the Ivy). Heās down to Tulane Honors and Rice university. I would appreciate your perspective. Thank you!
@momof3kinder and @2NCKids Tulane Honors and Rice have made it into my D21 top final choices too. We attended the Tulane honors presentation a few weeks ago. We are headed to Rice next week.
We were at the Tulane presentation last Monday also. We headed from Tulane to Vanderbilt and we may be headed to Rice next week tooā¦what is your childās intended major?
Iāve been to all those campuses, and as I mentioned, Sās attended Rice and Tulane (honors). Tulane has a strong public health program SPHTM ranks in top 10% of schools: Staying on the Front Lines | Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine but Riceās access to the hospitals across the street is super helpful. Assuming there is not a cost difference, be aware that Rice is planning to expand by 20% and is building another Residential College. Personally I love the RC system.
