It won’t be long until EA/ED decisions start being released for class of 2021. Seems like the right time to start the discussion thread. Best of luck to everyone!
So we will make this for discussion only. Once decisions start coming in, we will start a results-only thread.
Last year decisions started coming out about the second week of October. Tulane is at the top of D’s list. It’s a great fit for her but we are hoping for some merit money to help with the cost. With the ED option we wondered if there will be any changes this year with merit allocations. We have Florida prepaid and it’s a hard thing to beat. Fingers crossed. We are headed there this weekend for Campus Preview Day. Anyone else going?
I have it on good authority that the merit awards will be handled the same as always, with ED and EA being judged the same regardless of which way one applies. With your D’s stats I would say a decent merit award is likely. Which way did she apply?
She applied Early Action. We went back and forth about ED or EA but the decision just came down to dollars. We couldn’t let her apply ED not knowing if she would get merit aid. She loves the school, spent two weeks this summer doing community service and living on campus, poured her heart into her essay and is going back this weekend for preview day. We are just hoping for some merit aid to help with the cost.
I’m still waiting on my counsoler letter and transcripts to be sent, and they seem intent on pushing it to the last minute, so it seems my decision won’t be as soon as some! Fingers crossed for everyone else though.
Best wishes to everyone! May the acceptances flow like a river and the merit awards fall like rain.
@fallenchemist
What merit awards, if any do you think I can get?
33 ACT
4.06 Weighted/ 3.82 UW
8 APs
Good ECs
Good common app and why tulane essays, also good recs
7 legacies including both parents, moms parents, aunt, and 2 cousins
They got all my materials on October 2nd and an admissions counselor told me I will get a decision by November 15 at the very latest, probably sooner than that he said.
Has anyone received Gibson account information? My application was marked complete on 9/26.
Congrats on an outstanding high school record! I won’t predict an exact award, but I would think you would get one of the top 2 automatic consideration amounts. Last year that was $32,000 and $30,000, but I don’t know yet if they have raised the amounts this year. I also think you are competitive for the full tuition awards, which do require additional application steps.
That is also quite the Tulane family you are from! That’s pretty cool.
Wow. That is a lot more than I expected. I am really excited to visit next month, but as a huge college basketball fan I am a little disappointed that I am going a weekend too late for the basketball game against UNC. I am really anxious to hear back, and even though UT Austin is my top choice, if I get into both I will have a tough decision to make.
Hi fallenchemist, Do you know what GPA and ACT you need for the 2 automatic consideration merit awards?
If you search through last years admission discussion thread, there was a great effort by one of the members to list the stats given by others under the award they received. There are more than two auto-merit awards, btw.
OK, I found it. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/tulane-university/1701961-2019-tulane-ea-scea-decision-thread-p60.html Post #898. That should give you a pretty good feel for the stats.
@fallenchemist thanks for your info, when do you think I will hear back (like an exact date if you had to predict), and do you think I should feel pretty confident about my chances of getting in, I just want to make sure that will happen before thinking about any scholarships.
That’s a little too exact for me to know. I would think you would hear around the first of Nov., but so much depends on things like your admissions officer’s travel schedule, the number of applications coming in for EA and ED, and I am sure other factors. I know you are anxious, but now you just have to be a little patient and focus on school and other things you can control, not this which you no longer can. It is all in Tulane’s hands for the next step.
Tulane is my top choice. parents wouldn’t let me apply ED so I applied EA and all materials are marked as submitted as of today. visiting a second time in november. my school college counselor thinks I will get in but you never know. still pretty nervous/anxious to hear back.
No Gibson ID yet, just the application status portal log in.
@SJB123
I had everything except my ACT scores in on 9/28. They received my scores today, and I haven’t gotten any information to log in to Gibson.
@fallenchemist Yeah, I know I’m trying. I just want to get my first acceptance and I think I will be a lot less anxious and stressed and not worry about college stuff as much.
Of course. That is one of the great things about Tulane not waiting until mid-December to tell everyone. Having at least one really high quality acceptance in hand is a huge relief.
