@randomman007 I got the same email, don’t worry about it. They’re trying to let everyone know of all their admissions options, it’s just a mass email. I know a couple other kids from my school who got it. They just haven’t gotten to our apps yet, though when I got the email, my heart stopped a little bit since it was around 7PM central for me. I applied 10/10, everything was completed 10/27, didn’t hear yet. I’d give it a couple weeks.
@TulaneBarry Thank you for your wisdom. My D applied EA app was in 10/30. She received the “Thanks for applying to Tulane” email on the 31st. She has not yet received the email that gives her access to the Gibson online portal. Should she contact her admissions counselor?
@Tastoosh - there is the Application Status Portal and the Gibson Portal. The Application Status Portal is what allows the applicant to check the status of their application and find their online admission decision. Since she received the ‘Thanks for Applying to Tulane’ email, that means she received the log in credentials for the application status portal (since they are on the same email). Admissions can always re-send this if need be.
The Gibson Portal is for financial aid purposes and these log in credentials will be sent at a later time. Applicants have yet to receive this information.
@TulaneBarry Thank you so much! Okay she on the application portal. We were confused. Guess we will wait and see what happens. Thanks again!
@TulaneBarry Do you know how applications are read? Like in what order?
@UofMorMSU - as far as I know, there is no specific order. A lot of the timing is random. I wish I was able to assist further with this, but it really seems as if all applications go into a big pile and they are randomly selected. Obviously, this is not how it actually works - but there doesn’t seem to be a formal ‘method to the madness’ of reading over 30,000 applications.
@TulaneBarry Yeah let me know if you can! It seems semi-random and people with all kinds of stats are getting in. Is it possible that it’s by region or something? It just seems stressful that there is no rhyme or reason to the release order.
@UofMorMSU it would not necessarily be by region, since all admissions counselors (for all regions) are reading (and therefore releasing) decisions throughout these few weeks. Although stressful, just remember the large quantity of applications that are being read. In my opinion, Tulane actually does a really good job of releasing decisions very quickly. I wish the process could be less stressful, but 30,000 is a lot of reading in a very short period of time.

@TulaneBarry@BVI I applied EA. Application dated 10/15; all supplemental materials submitted by 11/1. I have not received a decision yet and have NOT received the email asking me to consider ED II. You mentioned that anyone who applied EA and has not been given an admissions decision yet should have gotten the ED II email. Now I’m worried because I didn’t get that. My stats are 2220 SAT, 3.95 Unweighted GPA (my school does not weight), excellent extracurriculars, shown a lot of interest, & put a lot of thought into my Why Tulane essay. I think it was really good. But I haven’t rec’d any email regarding ED II. Would really appreciate your input.
@TulaneBarry@BVI
Correction: I did get the ED II email after all. It was buried in a different folder. No need to respond to my previous question. Thanks!
@nomo1999 It would be appropriate for you to send a quick email to your admissions rep to make them aware of your visit and ask them to link your old email address to your new one. Good luck!
My daughter received a similar letter from another school. I think the schools just want as many EDs as possible.
Daughter accepted ED. Applied 10/26/2016; Accepted today 11/8/2016!! Poof just like that! 33 Composite ACT with writing (Math was a 36); 4.54 weighted GPA; 9th out of 364 in her high school class. 9+ AP classes and related testing. Horse-back riding; Latin Club; Current events club; great common app essays; $27K annual Distinguished Scholars merit scholarship offered. Math and History intended majors with focus on statistics. Maryland resident.

If you receive scholarship money from Tulane, that does not automatically mean you are in the Honors Program. So what exactly is the Honors Program, what are the criteria to get in to it, and how does acceptance to the Honors Program differ from Scholarship offers.
