Tulane EA and ED Admission Decisions - Class of 2021

When does Tulane release decisions on the portal? Every Monday?

@KatieK123 I submitted 10/30 and my app was marked complete 11/1! I guess I got lucky with a short wait time!

S got in with Premier Scholarship and Honors. App complete 11/1 EA. Very excited. Good luck!!!

From CA. 2160 SAT, 7 APs, 4.2 weighted, 3.95 unweighted. Tons of leadership.

Has anyone been admitted without a scholarship or will those decisions likely be released later?

Merit Scholarship, if received: $30,000/year Premier Scholar Award and Honors College

School/major: Biochemistry or neuroscience, haven’t decided yet!

Objective:
ACT (breakdown): 32C (35 E, 30 M, 33 R, 30 S, 29 W)
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.87
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Top 10%
AP (place score in parentheses): Chem (3), English Language (4), Euro (3)
Senior Year Course Load: AP English Lit, AP Calc, AP Bio, AP Gov’t & Politics, H/AP French 5
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): AP Scholar, National French Award

Subjective:
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parentheses): Swimming (Captain, school record holder, league champ, top 50 in state, district qualifier), Lacrosse (captain, 3 year starter), Water Polo (two years, both starter on coed team), Honor Society, French Honor Society, French Club, travel lacrosse
Job/Work Experience: Lifeguard for two summers, sales associate at bathing suit shop at beach for 1
Volunteer/Community Service: Bible Camps, student orientations
Essays: “Why Tulane?” was kind of cookie-cutter, but well written. 7/10. Common App was what set me apart, teachers who read had goosebumps.
Teacher Recommendations: AP Chemistry teacher who has known me my whole life, don’t really know how it stacks up but I was a good student who was dedicated and loved to talk chemistry, so probably good
Counselor Rec: Counselor is lacrosse coach, knows me as a leader, probably 8/10 because she’s new to school
Additional Rec: N/A (will be submitting my best rec for the full scholarships, from my swim coach)

Other
State (if domestic applicant): PA
School Type: Diverse Public, about 1200 students
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female
Income: ~$180K
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): female in STEM, possibly

Reflection
Strengths: Extracurriculars, ACT score, GPA and rank, Common App
Weaknesses: Why Tulane? essay
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Never demonstrated interest, but I’ve always wanted to go. I have strong scores and find myself to be a pretty unique applicant.
Where else you are applying or have already applied: PSU, UNC (EA), GT (EA), Duke, Vanderbilt
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: Tulane 2021!!! Honestly was worried about going because of the price, but now that I have the $30K, I’m pretty set! Just have to visit to make sure! Can’t stop shaking…

My D got her acceptance in the mail today! (Should be posted on the portal tonight at 7pm Central. It was postmarked Thursday and we are in CT). She applied EA and application was complete 10/1. (@seabear21- no scholarship).

Decision: Accepted (EA)
Merit Scholarship, if received: None

School/major: Undecided. Maybe Mathematics.

Objective:
ACT (breakdown): 31C
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.5/ Weighted 3.95/4.00
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): n/a at our school
AP (place score in parentheses): AP Spanish, AP Psychology, AP Statistics; School doesn’t offer a ton.

Subjective:
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parentheses): Track & Field (Varsity Captain)
Job/Work Experience: Summer Research Intern at a large law firm
Volunteer/Community Service: Feeding Connecticut (Leader), Animal Shelter Volunteer

Other
State (if domestic applicant): CT
School Type: Public, Rigorous
Ethnicity: White

Reflection
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Demonstrated Interest. Did not treat Why Tulane? as an essay in initial application. Just wrote a few paragraphs. Rewrote it as a more compelling essay as was suggested in this thread and sent to admissions counselor. I definitely think it made a difference!
Where else you are applying or have already applied: UNC Chapel Hill, Miami, Richmond, Elon, UConn
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: If you do not think you have adequately expressed you definite interest in attending, reach out to your admissions counselor asap!

@Harryp17 Decisions are mailed Thursday night it seems and are posted online Mondays at 7:00 pm CT

Thank you! He was EA. His application was completed on 10/26. Super quick turnaround!

3.3. Lots of 86/87/89s…

I got in!!! My stats are 3.7/1400/30. All my classes were either honors or AP. My service ECs are really good. So happy!

Has anyone from the midwest heard?

Yep. I’m from the Midwest.

Did anyone from NYC hear? I’ve been dying to find out!!

Got in from NJ  Honors program and President Scholarship. 34 ACT/1510 SAT/ 3.8 UW GPA. Was marked as received 10/28

Congrats all! Its looking like the applicant pool is very competitive this year! The scholarships are seemingly harder to get!

Anyone heard from the west coast?

Anyone have notifications online or is everyone’s from mail only?

No word here … from Seattle

@kc1789 Notifications will be posted online at 7PM Central Time, so if you live farther away, you may find out through the portal rather than through the mail
