Tulane EA/ED Decisions Class of 2022

Deferred : 32 ACT (now a 33) 4.389 W GPA, 4.0 UW GPA, Strong EC, 13 AP’s, All 5’s except Chem and Psych. Strong letters of rec and 2/257 ranked. From out of state. Someone above mentioned interest is important, I think that is true. My essay was a bit generic, and I never toured/showed interest. @thejewtalian I think you’re right lol

Yes ld5176644. It’s not you specifically; you’re absolutely qualified. Sometimes, they just have defer someone and accept another. There could be a variety of reasons but try not to take it personally! Cheers!

I was deferred too btw, so I feel your pain!

i didn’t get a status update. it looks the same as it did last night. is anyone else having this problem?? im gonna sit in front of m screen and wait for hours now

Deferred
3.5 UW GPA, 1390 SAT, 5 APs (my school doesn’t offer many), many many EC’s, 10/10 essays and recs. I tried to show interest, but couldn’t tour, but it’s definitely my number one school.
I know it was a lil bit of a stretch, but I might switch to EDII now, only didn’t before because of money, but hey, debt is fine I guess.

@thejewtalianhonestly agree I can’t Imagine this many people getting deferred and being so qualified. I know two of my friends who got deferred who were extremely qualified very high scores and gpa and visited!! I don’t know what more they could want

Actually disappointed I got deferred and some kids with way lower stats got accepted with scholarships…
ACT: 34
National merit semifinalist
750 math 2 subject test
8 APs, good recs, valedictorian, community service and academic awards…

letter came today! accepted!!!
1430 SAT
did Why Tulane essay
no APs
math 1 subject test: 720
3.8UW GPA
lots of extracurrics, jobs, service
didnt visit
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!

@College2022 why did so many people with great stats get deferred?? is it just because they didn’t visit the campus? That’s a little unfair…

deferred

@canary101 While it is a little unfair, Tulane is notorious for doing it. Their application is free and they’re still a very prestigious school so they know that highly qualified students will apply there just to say “I got into Tulane” when it’s nowhere near their top choices. That’s why they really value interest in applicants, even if that means people with lower stats get accepted.

Also, those who applied for Dean’s and Paul Tulane do not be worried! Your application WILL still be considered as a part of the RD group.

Defferred
4.0 UW GPA/ 4.85 W, 1470 SAT, (took 14/15 APs offered by school)
ECs: 3 varsity sports all 4 years, 250+ volunteer hours, internship, leadership roles in sports and clubs, ect. NMSF
Essays were 9.5/10, Why Tulane was ultra specific to Tulane so I was hoping that it would make up for my inability to visit.
Recs: 10/10, 9/10, 10/10 (Coach)

I’m not heartbroken because Tulane wasn’t my top choice but I’m definitely more stressed for the rest of my incoming results now than I was 10 minutes ago. Eeek. Congrats to all who were accepted.

If anyone deferred wants to feel a bit better, someone at my school who got deferred from Tulane got admission to Georgetown, Berkeley, Duke, and MIT. Do NOT think because you are deferred you are academically unqualified.

Deferred
3.9 UW/5.2 W GPA, 1380 SAT, 3 Honors societies w/ leadership positions, 2 sports, 15 APs, wrote Why Tulane, didn’t visit.
My stats aren’t that amazing but very surprised to see very qualified people also get deferred. Congrats to those that got in, though!

There’s a very simple way for deferred students with super-high stats to have a very strong chance of getting into Tulane - apply Early Decision II.

Need some help: so I received a Founder’s Scholarship, which is great, but by no means their highest scholarship. Everyone is saying that students who were deferred are still in the running (and in previous years, have received) for the DHS and Paul Tulane. I would assume getting EA acceptance and NOT the highest scholarship available (Distinguished Scholars) knocks me totally out of the running for DHS and PT?

@pantha33m yeah except we can’t all afford to be stuck paying full $67k a year, so that’s not an option for me and I’m sure a lot of other people.

@dayeshunlap You can still get it. If you get it it will just replace your original merit award.

I understand that those who applied for the scholarship awards only available for EA applicants (like deans honor, etc) will still go through, but would being deferred put someone at a significant disadvantage for earning any of these awards?

@dayeshunlap I wouldn’t assume that, from what I’ve heard you’re still in the running for DHS and PT even if you received other merit aid.
