Can someone explain to me how you score your essays x/10? I haven’t seen that anywhere but here. How do you know what your score is??
Hey all,
Younger sister got email notifying that the portal had updated with her decision, but when she went to log in, the site said “403: Temporarily Blocked”.
Has anyone else had this happen? How long is temporary?
I know she’s on the edge of her seat because the letter wasn’t in the mail and now this!
Also some info about me since I was deferred: had a FaceTime interview with an alumni, did the extra supplement essay, Common App Essay was 10/10 (very personal and meaningful to me in my growth), very good teacher recommendations, 3.95 GPA, extremely low SAT (1250), but lots of ECs and principal flutist of 3 ensembles, performed at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center! Also had an internship at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum!
@nguyenn16 I know exactly how you feel! I got rejected from Notre Dame University (my top pick) last Wednesday, so this deferral actually felt pretty good.
Accepted! 4.35 W GPA, like a 3.8 ish UW GPA, 32 ACT, female, Latina, volunteered a lot, lead 2 clubs at school (founded one); Preview TU was my first real interaction with Tulane and then I also did a phone interview. Congrats to everyone else who got in, and hope all goes well to everybody else!
of course its more than just the stats, was just surprised by the deferral, that’s all … my D has the ECS as well as the stats, but she had not visited in person yet so perhaps that was taken as a lack of interest, Because of work, school distance and expense, we were taking trip over school break - she had /researched on-line and I had talked so fondly about the school and community.
I truly wish everyone accepted all the best! Its a great school - all the best to the Class of 2022 - you should feel proud and celebrate!
@llaauurenn 4.65
@canary101 same here, was not planning on any ivies. best of luck to you with the rest of your applications
My son was deferred-- ACT 35, Unweighted GPA 4.0, current Student Government Vice President, Strong ECs and recommendations. Since I am seeing students with lower scores/gpa get accepted, I suspect they didn’t see sufficient interest on his part (He didn’t tour the school or request an interview). I believe they didn’t want to risk accepting him and have him not actually attend, thus bringing down their enrollment rate.
He got ED from Rice University, so actually they were correct in their assumptions.
For those tracking these sorts of things-- He was able to access the EDII button on the portal after others said it no longer worked for them. And, despite the fact that we’re in Texas (not far from LA), he did not receive a mailing from them when other Texans on this message board were receiving them.
(I got accepted, as I posted). I got deferred last week to my #1 school (an ivy), and seeing all you amazing people getting deferred just reaffirms that there are so many factors and so much luck involved and that if the school could take an infinite number of people you would all be accepted, which is why they defer. also if you read the post by the dean of admissions he describes just how low the acceptance rate dropped this year and the states skyrocketed
@slhogan - exactly! Not to take anything away from anyone, as you are most certainly qualified if accepted. Congratulations!!! If deferred though, it means you are qualified, but they have opted to defer you for any number of reasons – perceived interest, feel your overqualified, they need more students in a particular major, arts, athletics, students with different backgrounds, etc. Please don’t let this process drag you down!
Still did not see any update yet. Since no one post the rejection through here, I guess I might got rejected.
I think they decided to just defer everyone except for those that showed immense interest. I myself and a bunch of my friends got deferred despite having strong grades, ACT/SAT, extracurriculars etc. At least to me it seems like the majority of people who’ve gotten in so far have either visited, had an interview, or done something extra to show more interest.
accepted w/ founders award $24,000 per year!!! gpa uw3.8ish & w3.9 act 32… I showed a lot of interest I did the interview and visited and my why Tulane was really good… to everyone that got deferred, I am so sorry and I was expecting a deferral so in a way I understand how you feel but if Tulane is your top choice then do EDII they will for sure accept you if you do that so good luck!!
Well, though I had a good chance but deferred…
What is the deferral rate this year anybody know? And how many percent they will pick from the deferral pool?
Got deferred with a 33 ACT and 10 AP classes, rank 29/577, National Merit Finalist, from FL.
I’m surprised but not really. I took many regular classes in my freshman/sophomore year because I didn’t realize the impact they would have on my rank/GPA so the course rigor isn’t really there for those first two years which may have weighed me down. Additionally, i put down as a public health major and only took AP Enviro and a Biology class at my community college for science classes
I did go to a college info session held at my school when a Tulane rep came in and talked about it. I didn’t show as much interest as I could have, which is what I believe may have caused my deferral. However, with my family income bracket and this deferral, there’s no way I could afford it even if I got into Tulane. I did the DHS but i don’t think i’m eligible anymore considering I didn’t get accepted. In the hopes that something may pull through and I can afford it, I did still state that I was interested in Tulane and am going to email my admissions rep sometime later this week to thank her and express my continued interest, since I would fit in great there.
Oh well, c’est la vie. Not too upset but a bit surprised that’s all.
still did not get an update:(
Can anyone who applied EA still not access their decision? I cannot access my decision but can access the green wave portal.
Expecting a deferral as did not show interest other than Why Tulane essay and Paul Tulane scholarship essay. Not particularly impressed if they really are deferring students who they believe are using them as a safety. Definitely not the case for me despite high stats. Makes me remember how bad 2016 was with all the false acceptance emails! Oh well! I really can’t afford to go to college if my tuition isn’t 80% paid or more (I live in Georgia and they pay for state university tuition if you are over a certain GPA). Congrats to all those who got accepted.
What is the EA/ED II gate that people are referring to? Sorry trying to catch up - thanks!
DS applied EA - was deferred. 3.95 weighted, ACT 32, 6 AP, requested and did an interview.
