My daughter got in for spring '19 and is disappointed. Her stats are on par with what everyone here is reporting (30ACT 3,6 UW GPA, crazy ECs). My only thought…she’s VERY young (10/00
Bday) maybe that could have been it?
Anyway she’s seriously considering the paris program. Anyone else? Would love to connect
So many of the candidates are very close to one another and there are factors other than unweighted and test scores. That’s why the chance threads should be taken with a grain of salt.
Paris is a beautiful city (Rome is kind of dirty) and that would be a great choice if the course availability is the same. Paris is also a cheap and very fast two-hour train ride from London. It’s a great choice. Hope everything works out.
Maybe it’s been cleaned up over the last five months, but the garbage problem in Rome even got political. Tough for me to compare these two cities as Paris is my favorite city in the world.
I’m also a 2019 spring admit for Tulane we should all join the facebook page and start a fb group chat and discuss our plans for the fall semester. I’m thinking about the study abroad program in Italy.
For those studying abroad first semester we could talk about if we’re going to rome or paris so that we could all be together before the spring semester.
@Pizza9927 Most of the students who apply ED have lower stats than the applicants who apply EA or RD. For these ED students Tulane is an “academic reach,” not a target or safety. Had they applied EA or RD they would have likely been denied admission. By putting these students in Sping semester Tulane does not need to report their academic stats (SAT/ACT and gpa) to USNews and the other college ranking services, who only report on Fall semester admitted students. Also, I assume that most of the applicants who got accepted for spring through ED are “full pay” students. So Tulane benefits by getting the increased revenue of some full pay students --revenue stream is always an important consideration, and it increases the school’s yield --yield is a factor in college rankings—because these students will likely accept the offer of admission since Tulane was their first choice. And the students who get accepted ED for spring benefit by getting accepted to a highly selective school that they would not otherwise get into if not for the ED process.
First off, congratulations on the acceptance of your daughter for the spring semester?
Her stats sound great, the only think of for why she was admitted for spring rather than fall is her UW GPA. While a 3.6/4.0 is still an amazing GPA, there were likely many applicants much closer to a 4.0 UW GPA than a 3.6 is.
Wanted to post as I have benefited from reading so many other posts throughout the last 6 months. My daughter was admitted ED on 11/30(flat envelope) for Fall 2018. Received $16,000 merit aid. Beyond thrilled. Her portal was updated and when she opened it immediately saw letter with confetti graphic

We have family in NOLA and have grown to love it there. Daughter made two trips to campus and sat in on math class and observed dance class, 2nd visit participated in advanced modern class and loved it. Lots of contact with local rep although never had alum interview after many requests; they seemed to be very backed up with # of early applicants.
Wants to double major in dance and math- possibly statistics. Was really turned on by ease of interdisciplinary study and general feel of student body. She is an insanely disciplined and mature student and generally is well regarded by her teachers.
Her essays were heartfelt, especially the Why Tulane. Her uncle is a tour guide in NOLA and she has had lots of exposure to the culture there. She could wax rhapsodic just about the food for hours if you allow it:)
I assume her teacher recs were excellent and also submitted one from her modern technique teacher who is her school’s artistic director. Did not send zee mee as she took the class on campus this Fall and the chair of the dance department was present.
No mention of Honors program(I assume that is verified by Spring) but after seeing the dorms and hearing about the program from a family friend who is now a Junior, she would LOVE the opportunity.
Her dad and are relieved; NO OTHER SCHOOL CAME CLOSE for her- Tulane literally checked all of her boxes.
