Tulane EA or ED II?

Unfortunately, I realized Tulane was my top choice after the ED date passed, so I had to apply EA. I know that they just came out with an ED II date. I’m conflicted on whether I should switch to ED II to raise my chances, or if I should stay in EA. On one of the virtual meetings, the counselor said that EA decision is released before the ED II application is due, so if waitlisted, you can apply ED II. I believe he advised to just stay in EA, but I don’t want to risk being rejected. I mean my stats meet their average (3.6 UW, 4.0 W, and 1480 SAT), but I’m not sure. I also thought my Why Tulane essay was good because it was very thorough, and I enjoyed writing it. If you have any advice that would be very helpful!

First, is Tulane affordable per their net price calculator? If so, and Tulane is your first choice and you don’t have to compare FA offers, then switching to EDII could make sense.

Have you been demonstrating interest at Tulane, e.g., doing virtual sessions/panels/case studies, interviewing with your AO, things like that?

I’ve joined 5+ virtual meetings. I was supposed to visit before the ED date to see if it was my top choice, but because of Hurricane Zeta, I had to cancel it. I’m planning to visit soon. I opted out of Financial Aid, so that isn’t a concern. I’ve also been in contact with my admissions counselor.

Unless Tulane differs very very few from EA, I don’t see a situation where an EA rejection can turn into an ED acceptance.

From what I’ve heard, Tulane accepts a high percentage of ED applicants. I’m pretty sure nearly 50%. I also know of several people who were waitlisted, and then accepted when they applied for ED II. You can’t apply ED II if you’re rejected which is why I’m thinking of switching from EA to ED II.

I would sit tight. Unless you are rejected EA which seems unlikely, you can switch to ED II if waitlisted. And the most recent statistic I saw (Class of 2022) was that Tulane filled 28% of its class through ED. It still fills that majority of its classes through EA. If you are accepted EA, it becomes a moot point.

Tulane is need-blind, just not meeting full need. Wait for EA decisions and then choose IMO.
