How many of these scholarships does Tuland give out in total? I beleive Hainkel give 2 full rides to Louisiana Students and I heard there are 5 total full rides are if there are 2 Hainkel, 5 Stamps so 7 total or if 2 Hainkel and 3 Stamps? Also when are the notifications sent for these awards?

You will need to check those schools specifically. I am not sure if anyone here has specific familiarity with those scholarships.

Undoubtedly they are also competitive, so would have to be earned.

There are 7 in total. 2 Hainkel and 5 Stamps, as you say. I am not sure about the notification dates. I think the Hainkel is around end of February/early March. The Stamps is new this year (for Tulane, anyway) but I do remember reading that finalists for the Stamps would be interviewed in March so I would think the notification would be late March or early April.

And while I am not sure where you even asked about this, of course they are exceedingly competitive and are earned based on stats, the creativity of the DHS entry (the DHS application is used as the basis for both) and in the case of the Stamps, the assessment after an interview.

The Hainkel comes out at the same time the Dean’s. It is pulled from the Louisiana resident subset of Dean’s Honor Scholarship applicants.

Thanks for that clarification, gsckmom.

My daughter was interviewed on Wednesday and notified on Thursday that she received the Stamps Foundation Scholarship at Tulane.

Wow! Congratulations!

That is tremendous, @3JeepMom. The inaugural class of Stamps Scholars at Tulane (assuming she decides to attend). Since I know people will ask, do you mind posting her stats and other relevant info?

Honestly, when over 1000 students apply for DHS each year and only 75 are awarded…and then only 5 of those receive Stamps, she didn’t even have the Stamps Scholarship in mind when she applied for the DHS. After reading many posts on CC listing stats (something I’ve spent hours doing and something my daughter has never done), I have reached the conclusion that decision-makers must take into account an “it” factor that eludes the rest of us. That said, here are some of her stats…

GPA - straight As in public schools
ACT 35
SAT 2280
Class rank 1 out of 247
8 AP classes (AP Scholar with Distinction)
11-year Gifted Program (skipped second grade)
National Merit Finalist
US Presidential Scholar Candidate
National, State, Local Awards for community service, leadership, academics, piano, character, band, and swimming
Top Leadership Positions…President of Beta, Chairman of Teenage Republicans, Editor for Yearbook (as a junior), Captain for Varsity Quiz Bowl…many others
She has hundreds of hours of community service with charitable, environmental, religious, patriotic, and political organizations.
She has traveled extensively for education and mission work.
She is a very talented writer and has had numerous public-speaking opportunities.

Her DHS Project was very simple, very conservative yet spoke volumes about a particular passion of hers, reflected her best written work, and had a compelling creative aspect to it…also directly related to a box.

She interviewed on Skype with Mr. Roe Stamps himself and was absolutely thrilled with their conversation. He had her DHS Project in hand.

She will be attending Tulane as a Stamps Scholar…an amazing opportunity for her. She is humbled and grateful.

Very exciting! Those are amazing stats and an even more impressive resume. I know how proud you are. Congratulations to her and your entire family. Nice to have a first class education completely covered, isn’t it.

That is wonderful! Congratulations 3Jeepmom to you and your daughter! :)

Yes, we are very excited for her…and for us! Our son is a cadet at the Air Force Academy, and his experience in applying for the appointment a couple of years ago gave us key insights into this whole college application process.

I have never posted before but after reading a prior comment about when notifications of Stamps might possibly happen and knowing that so many are still waiting/wondering as the time to make decisions is quickly approaching…just thought others would want to know.

@3JeepMom, your D’s accomplishments are incredible and a great representative for the Stamp Scholars. Congratulations.

Yes, that was helpful regarding the timing, @3JeepMom. I thought it would take a bit longer between the interview and the announcement, but they didn’t waste any time!! I assume the interview was via Skype or something similar? I hope we hear from other Stamps recipients.

Congrats to JeepMom and your daughter. My daughter had similar stats and did not get the Stamps. She is very high on Tulane- that could have really sealed the deal!
