Since people started receiving merit scholarships, starting this thread. If anyone feels comfortable sharing their merit results that would be much appreciated (stats, GPA, SAT/ACT, merit amount, etc).
I notice no one has posted merit scholarship results. Does anyone know if Tulane is awarding merit scholarships the same this year as in the past? Or has Tulane cut merit aid? Thanks
Only ED decisions have been released so far and most ED people do not get the large scholarships Tulane offers (17k-32k) because their decision is binding and Tulane doesnt have to give them “incentive” to attend
@conflictedcollegegal6789998212 The part about ED kids not getting large merit scholarships simply is not true. Kids with the highest stats from ED, EA, and RD all get the most merit while kids with lower stats don’t get as much or don’t get accepted period regardless of their admission type. I get the logic of what you are saying, but in reality it doesn’t work that way. I wouldn’t let my son apply ED simply because you just can’t be sure what you will get in any given year based on the overall pool of applicants.
But why would the kids with the very highest stats and angling for merit money choose to apply to Tulane ED in large numbers?
If you are shopping for merit money, you would want to cast a wide net and maintain flexibility to see what schools end up giving you the best deals. Since merit money can be hard to predict.
Which would mean those very high stat kids would more likely be using non-binding means EA versus binding ED.
@northwesty Students apply ED in much lower numbers than EA and RD period. The very nature of ED is not that you are shopping for the best deal, it’s that you have decided beyond a doubt that one school is what you want and can afford it. The majority of applicants need to compare the net prices of their offers, regardless of high stats or low stats, and so most do not apply ED. Colleges do not normally penalize those those they do accept ED with lower merit scholarships.
We are saying the same thing.
I don’t think Tulane discriminates against ED applicants when awarding merit money. But the high-stat kids most likely to seek/get merit money are not likely to choose to apply ED. They’ll apply EA or RD – just like your kid did.
The problem is that with high stat kids admissions often wonders if they are using Tulane as a safety and Tulane never likes to be considered a safety. That is the advantage of ED for the high stat kids. Many of these EA kids are deferred to RD to see if they are still interested.
I got 15k per year!
30K per year. 34 ACT, 3.80 unweighted, 7 AP, lots of EC and volunteer. Applied EA.
I got 26k per year! 31 ACT, 3.75 UW gpa, lots of ECs! Applied EA!
I got 33k a year!! 33 ACT 3.9 unweighted GPA. Great interview. Did not write a Why Tulane essay
Congrats and thanks for posting! It really helps for parents to see the possibilities!
D applied EA got her admission letter today 30/k per year, accepted into Honors Program, SAT 1540, very strong “Why Tulane” essay, tons of service and artistic involvement, her weighted GPA is 4.65, and she has 5 AP classes so far plus 3 AP this year. She did not do interview
Accepted EA with 30 ACT strong EC and 17k merit. no interview, but strong why Tulane.
D was accepted EA with admission to Honors Program and 30k a year scholarship. Stats are: 35 ACT, UW 4.0, rigorous course load, average ECs but 4 year two sport Varsity athlete. We visited, but she didn’t do an interview. She felt pretty good about her Why Tulane essay.
We’re happy, but now comes the hard part of figuring out if we can make the finances work, even with that great scholarship.
I was accepted EA to Honors Program as well, 30k/year.
Stats 1550 SAT, rigorous course load, top 3%, 4 year varsity athlete, 200 volunteer hrs,
Wrote the Why Tulane essay, thought it was written well.
It’s unfortunate that even with this scholarship, tuition will still be around 37k/hr as I do not qualify for financial aid.
Submitted a DHS video; hopefully that turns out well. Love this school!
Applied EA and received an acceptance today! 27k/year. 1500 SAT, 33 ACT, 4.121 w GPA, 150+ volunteering hours, many ECs, and wrote a good Why Tulane? essay.
Didn’t get an Honors College notification tho… does this mean I did not qualify?
Can you say what State and your GPA?
Our son is a sophomore and a Deans’ Scholar… His class exploded with applicants and resulted in many triples living in doubles honors housing. More than the usual percent of students accepted Tulane because of the academic ranking surge. I suspect that the competition is tougher this year than ever before, and for good reason, TU is a highly respected academic institution. At the same time, TU values more than just super stats but you likely need top % stats to be competitive for the full ride scholarships (and you have to apply for them - and both big scholarships provide for other than just stats!). Good luck.
p.s. They have housing figure out so no worries.
