Tulane Merit Scholarships Results 2022

Daughter accepted EA to Honors Program. $25K/year. Won’t qualify for financial aid.
Stats: 35 ACT, 1470 SAT, 3.99 weighted GPA.Tons of Honors and AP classes this year and last, ok extra curriculars. Lots of volunteer hours. Why Tulane? essay probably so so. STEM focus.

Should have added we’re in Florida.

It was a shocker to me that Tulane’s COA is 67,000 dollars this year! That’s a lot of money to pay every year w/o merit or financial aid.

Despite what we thought was a disastrous interview, my daughter was invited to the Honors College with a 27k/year distinguished scholar award. 32 ACT, over 3.9 UW GPA and a solid list of leadership activities and essays. I think Tulane was at or near the top of her list before the heart-breaking interview, maybe it will be back in contention now:-)

34 Act 4.0 UW. 30k and honors college dual varsity athlete volunteer hours

Daughter in with 30K and Honors invitation. 1520 SAT 4.0 UW, lots of APs, and strong ECs. Her essays are good, but her phone interview made her nervous, so I am not sure how well that went. Tulane is her top choice, but so expensive-- even with the scholarship. She did apply for the Paul Tulane award, but that is a long shot–especially when I see how amazing all the other applicants are!

You are right that the standard Tulane merit money deals do not necessarily make the school financially viable for all families. Since getting 40% off still means you have to cover the remaining 60%.

The sweet spot for merit aid at Tulane are those families that would not qualify for any need-based financial aid (which is pretty much the only type of aid that the top 25-ish schools do). So the choice is (i) to stretch to pay full sticker price ($65-70k) at a top 25-ish school or (ii) to pay the more comfortable $35-40k net price for top 40 Tulane.

If you need the net price lower than that, then you’d need to break into the higher and more competitive Tulane scholarship level (i.e. full tuition PTA or DHS), qualify for Tulane need aid in addition to merit, or look at other schools.

We are right in @northwesty 's sweet spot - not likely to be eligible for need-based aid at comparable colleges but very grateful for this award: $27K “Distinguished Scholar” scholarship and Honors Program invite. Stats are 35 ACT, 3.5 UW GPA at well-known, rigorous school, pretty straightforward ECs, good essays and recs and much interest evidenced…

@northwesty-- I agree with your analysis completely and that was a big factor in deciding which schools made the Still hoping for one of the full tuition awards though!

31 ACT 38 UW GPA and got $26,000 per year

I was accepted EA with a Distinguished Scholar award of 27k/year, but was not invited to the Honors Program. Does this mean I did not get in? If so, is there any way I can apply to the Honors College because I am very interested in the program?

35 ACT, 4.0 UW, 4.49 W and 30k per year with honors program

@sona7662 you would receive the Honors invite in your admissions letter. You can apply to the program after your first semester at Tulane if you have a 3.8 GPA

Do you think that I should contact my admissions officer about applying separately or petitioning for the Honors College? I want to take advantage of the Honors courses at Tulane if I choose to go @njparent2022

@sona7662 Honors decisions are released with the admissions decision. If you did not receive Honors in your application, then there are no separate applications for Honors as a first year students and no appeals. However, like @njparent2022 said, you can apply to the program after you are already at Tulane if you have above a certain GPA.

My son was accepted. live in Georgia. 34ACT. 3.67 unweighted. 12APs, 4 SAT subject tests. Did well. 3 Year varsity athlete. Multiple leadership, clubs, plus volunteer hours. $30,000 per year. Honors College.
