Does anyone know when the Tulane Online application for fall 2014 comes out? Right now the Tulane site states to "come back in August" - I'm trying to figure out whether that means early, mid, late August.

I think last year it became active around the 15th. Of course that doesn’t mean it will be the same this year. Just keep checking every now and then.

Thanks very much!

We were just there visiting on Tuesday and they are hoping to have it up August 1st but if not, for sure by the 15th.

Thanks dolphnlvr. That is good to know. How did you like your visit?

Cemented our sons decision that Tulane is his top pick. We have walked the campus many times but this was our first official tour and meeting with Admission counselors and students. I have never seen such amazing school spirit at any school, and I work at a college. Now we hold our breath until December to see if he gets accepted.

Hi dolphn my son will be a freshman at Tulane this fall and my advice to you is to get your application in early. I just checked back on an old thread about acceptance dates. We heard on November 1 and a few here on CC heard as early as the last week in October. It’s still hard to wait once your app is in, but it’s a lot nicer when you don’t have to hold your breath so long! Good luck!

dophnlvr - You mentioned that you have walked the campus many times, does that mean you are a LA resident? If so, he might be guaranteed admission [Tulane Admission: Louisiana Applicants](Louisiana Applicants | Undergraduate Admission)

Under what early action plan do your son intend to apply to Tulane, single-choice or not?

He is applying Single Choice Early Action. Getting transcripts and his counselor recommendation sent in this week. He’s a little worried.- SAT scores are below the average that Tulane accepts 1860 total. Math is not his strong suit. I know he will have the application filled out within an hour of it becoming live.

We live in PA actually, but we visit NOLA frequently. Been taking our son since he was a small child. New Orleans is his second home, he has wanted to go to Tulane for as long as I can remember!

Maybe he should try the ACT. Sometimes people do better on that, sometimes not. Just a thought. I know in PA SAT dominates.

Online Application is LIVE!!!

Is it me or Tulane did away with essays?

No they are still there, after the Scores section.

My son had his filled out by the time I got home from work. Just needs to fine tune his essays!

Castri…fill out Part 1 and submit. Part 1 contains basic demographic info. Once you submit Part 1, Tulane will email you with a username and password. You can then work on Part 2 at your leisure. The essays (1- Personal Statement and 2- “Why Tulane”) are in Part 2. You can click “save” and work at on it at different sittings and then hit “submit” when you are all done. Note, that it says that the “Why Tulane” essay is “optional” however, if we have learned anything here on the CC board is that it is not optional if you really want to get into Tulane. Write that essay!
Make sure that you write down your password (it is a series of numbers and letters which they assign to you). Once you submit your application, you will then wait a few weeks and then log in to Gibson to enter it obsessively many many times a day to find out your admissions decision! Last year, people started hearing during the last week in October. Good Luck!

My bad then…

Jozuko makes an essential point: DO the “optional” essay. It literally can make the difference between admission and rejection!

Please keep in mind that you cannot edit part 1 after you submit it. Three years ago my D1 told me that she had submitted part 1 and answered Yes to the 'Are you a first generation college student" question. My husband and I are both college grads but she thought it meant the first one to go to Tulane! Anyway she had to email her adcom to correct it and I said to myself that she will never get in because they will think she cannot even answer a simple question correctly. But I am happy to say that she is starting her junior year at Tulane soon ad abslutely LOVES it!

Good story, mumof2! I wouldn’t have thought much about it since those of us that follow this whole admissions area are used to that description, but I can see where it is a kind of “inside term”. They really should drop the lingo and just say “Are you the first one in your immediate family to attend college?” After all, there is ambiguity involved in the term. Do you include grandparents (most people say no)? What if one or both parents started college but never graduated, or only went to a 2 year program? Not really very obvious what the term means.

Glad she is having such a great experience. Is she going to go abroad?

Hi Fallenchemist,
Yes she is on her way to B school in Madrid on August 25. Between that and getting D2 off to U Miami on August 19 it will be crazy, but it’s all good!
