Hi thank you so much for this insight. I am an international student that has just been admitted into pitts for MPH Infectious disease and Microbiology. Also have an admission into Tulane Univ for MPH tropical medicine and really don't know what path to thread. I have worked for two years in the deparment of Medical Microbiology Department. Where i come from, people are only familiar with the MPH top ten schools and no one seems to know anything about pitts. Most forums i ve seen are either talking about Yale, JPH , or Havard. I am worried about my prospect after school due to the school's ranking and don't know if i should just hold on till next year to get into an IVY league school.

There are so many factors i ll need your input on: research, jobs, aids or scholarships.

In terms of your employment prospects after you obtain your MPH, neither Pitt nor Tulane will hinder your chances. Both schools are ranked high, and they’re both well-known and well-respected within the field of public health. As wgmcp101 stated, you really can’t go wrong either way.

In terms of deciding between the two: you were accepted to each for a different program. Which program is more interesting to you? Which would you rather pursue as an actual career? Also, think about location. Pittsburgh and New Orleans are very different places. Where would you rather be? If it’s important to you, which is closer to your family/significant other/etc.? Are there substantial differences in cost between the two? It would probably be wise to factor in the cost of living in both cities. I believe that most schools of public health are not very generous when it comes to merit aid for their MPH students, so I would not count on any scholarships. In terms of research, Pitt is a research mecca. You’ll have no problem finding a lab to work at here. Actually, a tech at one of the labs I worked at was an MPH student in the Infectious Diseases and Microbio program. There are lots of factors you can take into consideration when making your decision…think of the ones that are the most important to you.
