Tulane or UVA?

My son will have to choose between Tulane (Honors Program) and UVa. Here's what's important to him:

Overall educational experience. He really is an intellectual and the more he learns the happier he will be.

Opportunities, things like internships, chances to do research, campus activities.

His interests are varied. He could wind up majoring in anything outside of math and science. Most likely things he will study: Psychology, Art History, English, Creative Writing, Philosophy, Classics, History, Economics, Studio Art, Film Studies (I think it's just a minor at both schools), Architecture.

We've gathered a lot more info about Tulane as he was accepted in the fall and we just heard from UVa two days ago. We went to Tulane for a second visit for accepted honors students this month. He stayed in a dorm and all that. I got the impression that Tulane profs go out of their way to find great internships and things for the honors students. We have no equivalent information about how this is at UVA.

Money is not an issue, let's just say that with scholarships, travel costs and all that, it won't make much difference.

UVA over Tulane.

I have a freshman D at Tulane and am a Va. resident and know full well that UVa is a great school. It really depends on what your son is looking for and where he’s most comfortable. Tulane is a mid-size private. UVA is a large state school.

I can share with you that I am impressed with Tulane’s small classes and faculty involvement. And, my daughter’s advisor registered classes for her. Unheard of at most large public universities.

No question UVA is an awesome school. Like I said it’s where you’re most comfortable.

UVa, both in terms of layman’s prestige and strengths in the subjects you mentioned, seems to be a better choice.
