Hello, I m a French student and I'd like your opinion on these universities. Next year I ll transfer in one a these in business ( finance ) . So for you which one has the best campus , the most welcoming people ? And which one is the most reputable ? Thanks a lot

My son visited Va Tech and ended up attending Tulane. I can’t speak to the quality of the business program (finance), but I can say that two schools couldn’t be more different from each other.

Va Tech–stunningly beautiful campus in a very rural environment. Fantastic location for outdoorsy person–the mountains are nearby. The town it’s located in has a very small town feel. S is extremely interested in hiking, kayaking, running etc and agreed that this campus had a perfect environment for those kinds of activities. It also seems to have lots of school spirit. Not alot of night life, at least visible to us upon visiting.

Tulane–also beautiful campus, but in a very culturally diverse city. New Orleans is unique within the United States–in architecture, spirit, and food! While it does not have the big-city feel of a Chicago or New York, or the urban-sprawl city feel of a Los Angeles or Atlanta, it IS a city and feels like one. Outdoors activities are available, but it is a coastal-southern city–flat with rivers, marshes. It’s also very humid.
The nightlife is distracting, to say the least :)

Anyway, it seems to me that the choice here, and not a small one, is that one place may be a much better fit for you than the other. I’d spend more time doing research on that aspect, once you’re clear about the academic pros/cons of each.

Hope that helps.

I second curiouser’s opinion … good academics can be found at both, but a student is likely to feel comfortable just one or the other.
