Tulane Spring Acceptances- Class of 2021

I haven’t seen this yet so I decided to make one. For anyone that got accepted Spring to talk about everyone’s plans. Whether you think you will accept the offer and if so what you will do in that semester off.

Even though there was a mess up with admission decisions (I wasn’t one of the people to recieve a false decision), I was THRILLED to have at least been admitted for spring. I put in my payment the next morning!! Tulane was my TOP choice, so as long as I was in, that’s all that mattered. As for what i’m going to do for a whole year now until I start… Online it said for Tulane “transfer” kids, that no more than 9 credits MIGHT be accepted for an accredited community college. I’m going to take some “weed-out” classes during the fall to possibly get credit, and even if I don’t, at least I’ll have already been through the class and will be prepared. I wanted to travel fall semester, but with Tulanes tuition rasing 10 grand, we don’t really have the funds for travelling right now (shame :/)

@172373MP, You mentioned a 10 grand tuition increase…Could you please explain? When did that happen or get announced? Is that over the past few years, or upcoming? This arroused concern, and would appreciate context to this statement. Thank you

@172373MP I’m thinking about getting an internship and traveling to China but not really sure if that’s going to work out. I was unfortunately one of the people that got the email and I still haven’t committed fully anywhere.

I also got the email and have not officially committed anywhere yet. Even though starting in the Spring and not really getting the typical “freshman year experience” is really tough for me to swallow, Tulane is my top choice and I can’t picture myself anywhere else. As for taking classes, I am a little iffy on the fact that Tulane says they MIGHT accept the credits, and I really don’t want to spend the money or time taking classes that I am not even sure will transfer. Because of that, I think I’m going to completely take a semester off academically and just hit the ground running in January. As for what I am going to do, I have my Certified medical assistant and EMT license so hopefully I will be able to get a job to both to save for college spending money and bulk of my resume for med school. I have an internship with a neurosurgeon right now and I’m HOPING that he will let me continue with him until January. I hear we are eligible to still go to Destination Tulane. Is anybody considering going? I heard the august orientation programs for freshman are outstanding, and with this being Tulane’s first year to have spring admissions, I really hope that they put in honest effort into orientation activities for us as well.

Be very careful if you are planning on taking classes elsewhere. Tulane is very selective in what credits they will allow to transfer. Especially Community College credits. My son took a summer class at our local University and he had to fight to get Tulane to accept the credits. I think he finally just wore them down! But he had to jump through all kinds of hoops to finally get the credit. He had to meet with the Dept Director and turn in all the assignments he did in addition to the syllabus and course description.

Do you think we will be allowed to join the Facebook class of 2021 group? I talked to the alumni who I interviewed with and she said that was the way she ended up meeting a lot of people before she got to Tulane… She even met her roommate! If not, maybe there will be one for spring/transfer kids.

I think it would be great for us to make a group me of our own Facebook group if we can’t join the regular one

@789frizbee @Testingearly y’all can definitely join the Facebook group!

Thank you @TulaneMaddie22 that’s good to know!

I am curious…what happened with the acceptances? Were they sent in error and then Tulane felt that they had to offer a delayed–Spring acceptance? As for the tuition increase----$10,000 is a huge leap. Did you receive a four year projected tuition payment plan with this information? Doesn’t it make you concerned about future increases over the course of four years? Were any of the deferred acceptances accompanied by merit aid?

@harper8 @TulaneMaddie22 Another poster @172373MP on this thread above said “tuition raising 10K”— without any explanation or context or any indication where he/she got that info. It does not sound accurate at all. Can you please clarify because I have not heard anything about such amount of annual increase. Any idea how much tuition and fee actually will increase in each of the next few years?

It looks like an increase of $2500 next year total estimated costs. I’m going to say $10k was over 4 years.

@harper8 I believe that there are people who got into the spring semester who did not receive the tech email, as well as people who received the email who didn’t get in at all. I would like to hope I got in because of a decent application (granted probably not the best considering the circumstances) and not because of a mistake. But I will take whatever I can get! As for the tuition rise, this is the first time I have heard about this too.

For those of you accepted spring my admissions counselor told me if you did not get any merit aid with your acceptance that your application was already reviewed and that you did not qualify for any merit. In addition I was told that I could not apply for any of the merit scholarships that are not due yet including the community service fellowship

Does anyone know how roommates will work for Spring semester students?

@Testing05 I was about to ask that. I was going to ask the school but I feel like I bother them too much with my questions. :-??

I ask my counselor about rooming and he basically said they have not figured it out yet.

That is kind of concerning… Probably something they should have thought of before they accepted us??

I also got accepted for Spring 2018 and it has been really hard for me to swallow as well because Tulane was my top choice and I feel like I may be missing out on a lot, however my admission counselor did mention that they may have a fall program in the works for spring admits and that an email will be sent out within the next few weeks. I don’t want to get my hopes up, but it seems as though many people have asked for something like this. As for the Facebook group, definitely go join it because I did as well. It’s tough though because I don’t feel like I’m part of the freshman class even though I most likely will pick Tulane.
