Tulane Students Offer to Answer Questions

There is mailbox address where you have to mail the hard copies. Check Gibson online portal. We submitted CCS/FAFSA before Dec 15 deadline for early action applicants. Got our financial package on January 9. I am glad that TU financial aid office responds to emails within 24 hours.

From Financial aid office-Please submit all documents to:
Tulane University Processing Center
P.O. Box 8090
Portsmouth, NH 03802

You have to submit hard copies of your tax returns, not your FAFSA and CSS.

@musical99 hey so its technically not rolling because the time of when you submitted your app didn’t affect when you would receive a decision. Basically the counselors just released decisions as soon as they made them but not in any specific order. I can only tell you that you will definitely receive a decision by April 1st but can’t guarantee it will come before that.

@TulaneMaddie22 , Appreciate you taking the time to answer our questions. Can you talk a bit about the school spirit and athletics. Do people support the football and basketball programs? While visiting last year we did attend a basketball game. While not well attended by students, there was lots of spirit by those that were there so just trying to get an honest idea of what to expect and whether that is important to us. We will be back on campus to attend DT in March but no opportunity to attend another sporting event. Thanks in advance.

@fallschurchmom I would say that while Tulane is not a big SEC school we still are a D1 school and therefore have competitive sport teams. I think in general people are very spirited about Tulane overall and that our school spirit towards sports is always growing as our programs grow. Specifically with our football team this was the 3rd season that they played in the stadium uptown whereas they used to play in the super dome downtown. Tailgating happens right on our main quads on campus and a lot of students attend.

Hey so this is kinda long, but my mom and I have scheduled our trip to NOLA for the Feb. 13th DT, and I want to make sure I am not missing out on any big sights or places to see. Here is what I have so far:

Saturday the 11th:
-We get in at around 7:55 PM
-Plan to eat some place in walking distance from Tulane, since our hotel is on St. Charles as well. Maybe Vincent’s or the Blind Pelican?(From what I can tell, St. Charles doesn’t offer much in terms of restaurants, feel free to suggest a better place to eat if you know one!)

Sunday the 12th:
-Breakfast at Cafe Du Monde
-Explore Jackson Square and the surrounding area
-Lunch at Muriel’s
-Free period(we don’t really know what to do at this time, suggestions for somewhere close to that area would be great!)
-Go to magazine street and explore, or, go to the Contemporary Art Center
-Head to Frenchmen Street and explore
-Dinner at either the Three Muses or the Maison
-Frenchmen Art Market

-Monday the 13th:
-DT until about noon, eat lunch at Tulane
-Head over to Audubon Park
-Then the WWII Museum
-Dinner at Peche
-Another free period where we don’t know what to do haha

Tuesday the 14th:
-Go home :frowning:

That is currently what we have, are we missing anything big? Also are there restaurants better than the ones we have planned that would be relatively the same price? Any suggestions or comments would be great, thanks guys! I am so excited to be able to visit.

Vincent’s is wonderful. You can also walk or take the streetcar up to Carrolton and Oak, and go to Jaque Imo’s.
Sunday is a pretty aggressive schedule., it has you going from one end of the city to the other and then back again. You could easily spend the entire day wandering the French Quarter, Royal Street etc. The Presbytere has two amazing exhibits- one on Mardi Gras and the other on Hurricane Katrina. I wouldn’t waste a breakfast at Cafe Dumonde, its only beignets. Go to Ruby Slipper, Camiella Grill or Red Gravy for breakfast and have beignets as a dessert or late night. It always take much longer than you think to get around New Orleans, so plan to be flexible. The French Quarter doesn’t really start waking up until around 10:00, some places even later. I wouldn’t count on having much free time. I would stay in the FQ for the day, then have dinner and explore Frenchman St.

Save Magazine Street for after DT. If you are not staying for the afternoon sessions you can walk through Audubon Park, all the way to Magazine street. Hop on the Magazine st bus and get off where you want to have lunch, (so many choices- Shaya, Mahoneys, Joey K’s, Pizza Domenica, - to name a few).

or

Head down to the WW2 Museum right after DT. You could easily spend an entire day here.

Some other things you can do at night- Rock n Bowl, Preservation Hall, ghost tour,

Have a great time!!!

Is there a schedule for Destination Tulane (Feb 13)?

@microrna there is a link to the tentative schedule on this page https://admission.tulane.edu/visit/special-programs

A couple recommendations to add: make reservations NOW on Open Table for the places you want to eat, and if you go to Ruby Slipper get the APP NOWAIT and virtually put yourself in line so you don’t have to wait an hour there…it is worth the wait.
Agree with above that Sunday is ambitious and a bit of back and forth --NOLA is such a great city to wander! if you walk through Audubon park over to Magazine St…plan extra time!

@microrna they will be sending out the emails tomorrow morning with a confirmed schedule of DT for Monday!

@dolphnlvr6 @camolyn thank you for the helpful tips and recommendations. My mother and I had a great time in NOLA this weekend. While I am still weighing college options, this trip really solidified Tulane as one of my top two choices!!

@mkat12 glad you had a good time!

@TulaneMaddie22 forgive me if this question has been asked - but do you know when the big merit scholarships will be announced? As in Paul Tulane, Stamps…

What part of campus would we get the streetcar? We are looking to park at Tulane and take the streetcar into FQ- then Uber back the Saturday before Top Scholars weekend.

The streetcar runs along St Charles which is where the famous Tulane sign is located, near the Gibson Admissions building. Across St Charles is Audubon Park.

so I have a question about Tulane reception. I missed the fall reception because I gave birth to our youngest child 4 days before the reception and there was no way I could take our son. (we live about an hour away from reception site) however, the spring reception is for admitted students only, right? I see that one is happening close to our town in early March, but we haven’t heard the admission decision yet. Why have the reception BEFORE the decision are all out? If we don’t hear by early March, should we just give up hope?

@TulaneMaddie22 I’m sure you’re busy with school, but are you still on this forum? It’s been 2 weeks since you’ve posted anything.

Hi! How many honors did you take sophomore year of high school. I really want to go to Tulane
