Is anyone applying to Tulane?
Is there anyone attending Tulane currently?

If so, would you mind sharing some stats, so that I can have a feel for how I stand in admission

A good friend of the family received her acceptance Friday. Her first one, and we were all pretty pumped. I remember a 720/640 SAT, and a GPA of 3.8 weighted, probably 3.6 uw, top 10%, small to medium public, great recs, huge EC's, and I would bet the farm that she had monster essays although I never saw them. She has also applied NYU ED,Sarah Lawrence, and Chicago. Hope this little bit helps.

thanks alot

I have pretty similar stats (class rank a little lower though), and to hear that is really comforting

curmudgeon do you have time to read my essay for tulane? I really need some feedback and the deadline is tomorrow!
My stats btw is
1370 SAT
3.9 uw
decent EC
no recs since i got the personalized application

I'm applying, it's a bit of a reach though. I have good academics but standardized testing is not my thing.

Does having Tulane extened the deadlin to Nov14 for me and waive app fee and optional essay mean anything for me?

I think most applicants got their optional essay waived ;)

yeah, they waived my fee and the optional essay too

Hi,

First off, I do enjoy your posts!

Did your friend's D receive a merit offer at the same time? The Tulane website - on a page describing last year's merit scholarships - said that merit offers come with acceptances. But the timeline in the Tulane application booklet says that DSA and Founder's merit offers for EA/ED are announced on January 1. Since the applicant you describe seems quite qualified, I was wondering if a merit offer came too. I think my S has just been accepted :), but he is away for the weekend so we won't know for sure until he opens the envelope tomorrow!!!!

I don't know. I'll ask and post. She would not have qualified for any need based aid and they probably filed no apps for specific school based scholarships, but merit that flows from the app itself? That is a good question.

I re-read your post and I've been thinking about having to hold that envelope. Unopened. You have greater willpower than I have . I would have found D by now and conjured up some story about needing to open the envelope to check it for Anthrax .

Thanks, C.

My understanding is that all applicants are automatically considered for merit aid (Founders and Distinguished scholarships) but the Dean's Honor Scholarship requires a separate app.

Appreciate your checking with them and hope the D gets to go where she most prefers!

My postscript was added as you posted, I really don't know if I could stand it.Safety -wise, and all.

My husband wanted to open it but I said no - but I was not above holding it up to the light.... ;) So I feel pretty confident based on what I could decifer. But I will remember the anthrax idea for other need-to-know letters that may come folded over or in thicker envelopes!

I remember my D's friend refusing to go home from our house one April, where a letter (and increasingly agitated parents) awaited her. She prefered waiting to perhaps bad news. Don't even remember which school it was, but she did enjoy college, so I guess it worked out one way or the other. As, I do think, it tends to most of the time.

The old "holding it up to the light" trick, huh. I'm impressed. Elegantly simple, and I might add -plausibly deniable.

Isn't Tulane's acceptance in a big envelope? I thought it was years ago, but maybe they have changed how it is done. I do know that years ago the merit scholarship letter arrived under seperate mail, and then a few days later a certificate came announcing the scholarship. Maybe they are both different know.

Well it is official - S was accepted at Tulane. When he called last night, we opened the big but thin envelope, and inside was a letter of acceptance with phrasing specifically for EA applicants. On the envelope were the words "Are You In?" which gave us pause - why didn't it just say Congratulations? There was also a one page explanation of what comes next - when to expect info on housing, when to send a deposit. etc. No mention at all of merit scholarships. The application timeline in the printed 2005 app booklet says that for EA and ED, Founders and DSA winners are announced on January 1, so I guess that trumps the old page on the website. At least I hope so! S will apply for the Dean's too - that is due Dec. 15.

Wow! I thought that you aren't supposed to hear back until Dec. 15!
