Reeling from this announcement here. EE/CE/Computer Science appear to be among the majors eliminated. Physics too? We have a lot to think about here, once DS' exams are finished at Bates. Hope he is not checking these announcements until next week.

Yes, dstark. There is also a different one for graduate programs, which does have Physics as a continuing field. So I am confused about that field. Do you read things as I read them?

Bates has Physics, which DS really enjoys as he did in HS. When he first arrived at Bates and had no idea of whether Tulane would re-open, he certainly thought about Physics as a major. Bates does not have Engineering, nor - I believe - Computer Science.

I just called Tulane and they said the call center handling questions about the renewal program would be set up possibly tomorrow, for sure on Monday. 888-862-8799.

The person I spoke with would not confirm or deny about ME, but when I said I was assuming it was being eliminated, the employee said that was also their assumption.

concerned and curiouser, I am still just reeling. Somehow I never expected Engineering to be on the chopping block. We're back to limbo. I have been such a champion of Tulane and I am not feeling bitter, just disoriented and full of uncertainty. Will he want to stay there and consider other majors? Probably yes, if Physics is available, but I can't even figure that out. Who knows otherwise? Does it make sense to head down there for Spring/Lagniappe and consider options once there? For Fall 2006 transfer? Will other institutions be especially accommodating to "renewal-displaced" students as they were to Katrina-displaced students - not free, not automatic, but maybe stretching deadlines and taking more transfers than they might have? To make alternate plans for spring term- with the possible exception of staying at the host institution - seems like such a rush right now.

It's "all about me" at the moment, and I don't like that feeling. Haven't found a way to shut down the adrenalin rush. I'm glad I'm going to a holiday party tonight. Perhaps an extra glass of wine?

jm, I am so sorry about the impact this is having on you! Mine shifted from cogsci to neurosci awhile back, so I think he's okay, but he's even stunned by this. I wish they hadn't made this announcement during finals week!

kraemer, I am right there with you. We will all work through this, together where we can. The timing of the announcement for you kids, in the middle of finals, is way tough. In fact, I may have spilled the beans by posting here and, for that, I am sorry.

There will be more info each day, I'm betting options wil open up. Concentrate right now on your studies and come back to this issue when you're through.

I hope you dont feel bad for posting the info. With Tulane posting it on their website, it was going to spread quickly. It might be distracting for some students who are taking exams, etc., but you did not chose the timing of the announcement. Tulane did.

In my sons case, I am glad we found out now. He is high school senior and finding out as quickly as possible helps him weigh all his options and react accordingly.
