I’ve posted quite a few threads about different colleges and I just copy and paste my data. A few posters suggested I look into Tulane, and I applied earlier this week. Let me know what you think!

I’ve taken four AP classes, 3 honors classes, and two dual-credit (through a community college) classes. I also have a language credit from the Concordia Language Villages (summer foreign language camp).
EC: Competitive All-Star cheerleading, varsity cheerleading, show choir, jazz choir, golf, bowling, and I work two part-time jobs currently. I also attended the Russian language village of Concordia for seven years as a camper, participating in the high school credit program, and I have worked there for the last three years. I am an NHS member, and I also volunteer at the local humane society.
I speak both Russian and Spanish fluently and I am a first-generation American.
My essay is very strong, at 650 words. I was directly admitted to the University of Iowa’s Tippie College of Business, a fairly good business school, which only admits 900 freshmen annually. Please let me know as I can’t wait until the spring!
Your stats look just about average, especially your GPA. As long have you’ve written the optional supplements and have a good Common App essay, I think you have decent chances. I was accepted EA.
tulane is getting really selective this year due to a 20% increase in applicants due to them getting on board with common app. so, they’re mostly looking for people with a 31-35 act. I was deferred early action with a 3.8 GPA and a 30 ACT. good luck
@alc1998, I agree that this year is more competitive due to more applicants competing for fewer spots, but it would be a mistake to believe that it’s all about stats. There are students with 28 composites and students with 35 composites all getting in (and getting deferred, for that matter). In both cases, the admissions committee wants to see that you know the school, the culture, the offerings, and are genuinely enthusiastic about them and would be a good addition to the class and maybe add something to it, in terms of personality, talents, academic interests, etc. All things being equal, is it better to have higher stats? Of course it is, but it is also a mistake to think that they are the be all end all just because they are the most measurable. (BTW, I suspect that Tulane is by no means unique in the holistic approach it takes.)
@NJDad68 I wish it wasn’t that way, but my guidance counselor spoke to an admissions officer and they were very blunt when they said that they are looking for higher stats. I have great ECs and I wrote specifically about my passion for Tulane in my essay, so it’s hard for me to believe that they looked at it hollistically…
I got into Tulane Early Action, and just wanted to share my stats with everyone to give them an idea of what they may be interested in. I received a $27,000 per year scholarship on top of this ($108,000 total).

EC: Varsity Soccer, Varsity Tennis, Debate team captain, 2-time NY debate state championships attendee, Model United Nations attendee at UPenn, French club officer, part time job, I’ve tutored a kid for over a year, and I casually play piano.
My common app general essay was very strong, in which I talked about my tutoring as well as my involvement with my community after Hurricane Sandy. In my Tulane essay, I talked about my Hurricane Sandy work again, and talked about debate, then going on to talk about what my involvement on campus at Tulane will be. I think my essays, extracurriculars, and especially ACT really carried me. I also got into Ohio State, and was deferred from Northeastern. Hopefully this gives you some sort of idea!
I think they put a lot of emphasis on the optional essay, so make sure to do that, especially since your gpa and ACT aren’t on the high end of their average admitted stats. I got in w a 34, 3.92 unweighted gpa w/ 11APs, and I thought my essay was really good. They gave me 32k/yr and I was also admitted to the honors college. As a sort of reference, I’ve also gotten into UMich, University of Rochester, and Vanderbilt so far.
