Tulane v. GW v. Northeastern v. Richmond - Please Help!!!!!

Hi. So it’s getting close to May 1 and I’m getting a little desperate, so I was wondering if anyone could weigh in and help me with my choice.

Here are the facts: I’m undecided in my major, love college basketball/school spirit, am big on location (hate cold weather too), and don’t want to be in debt forever (which is why I had to take off 'Cuse and UMiami)

Tulane - 17k/yr scholarship
GW - 14k/yr scholarship
Northeastern - NU.in program and 9.4k/yr scholarship
Richmond - Nothing (it was a reach)

Anyone have any advice for me? I’m leaning towards Tulane and GW, but honestly I have no idea and am resorting to asking strangers.

@taratarataratara <> Tulane has an open curriculum which means easy intra-school transfer. So if you start in the Science and engineering school you can easily switch to the business school. Tulane is strong in so many academic areas. It just completed expansion of business school and is starting construction on new Sciemce and Engineering building.
<> Tulane is Division 1 and has a cozy basketball arena right in campus plus a football stadium also. The students have a lot of school spirit and love Tulane. It is consistently ranked by other students in Princeton Review as having the happiest students. My daughter is there and would agree.

<> NOLA is a great city with lots of festivals (Mardi Gras being the longest and largest) and fun things to do outside of the campus. The weather is warm and tropical and beats D.C.'s weather.

I don’t think Northeastern should be considered given that it’s very much the opposite of what you want in these regards. Tulane is probably the best fit here.

You need to do the net price calculator for each school to see what financial aid you qualify for. For private schools, it’s usually more disappointing than exciting. If it’s going to require you to take out any more than the maximum allowed $27k in student loans for your 4 year degree, you can’t afford it. How much are your parents contributing? Is Richmond in-state for you? If so, it’s probably the most affordable of the three. You’ll need to sit down with your parents and have the “money talk.”

thanks @trackmbe3 and @PengsPhils.

@coolguy40 I don’t qualify for enough aid for it to count since my parents’ income is too high. They can contribute a good amount, but I want to save some money for my little brother. Richmond is a private school, so state doesn’t really matter, but I’m not in-state anyway. Thanks for the advice, though.

Best of luck!

Tulane is the obvious fit for weather, but Northeastern has a great program for undecided students. The co-op program is also outstanding for helping you try out different jobs, and you earn a salary (and don’t pay tuition) while doing them. I know Boston is cold, but if location is important for other reasons, it’s an awesome city. I have one daughter heading to Tulane and the other to Northeastern (and both got into GW) so I know it’s a tough call! Good luck!
