Tulane vs. Georgetown

Something completely unexpected happened when I returned home from an incredible weekend at Tulane. Sitting in my mailbox was a fat envelope from Georgetown my super reach school that I didn't think would accept me in a million years.

I sumbitted my deposit to Tulane already and stocked up on a ton of Tulane gear while I was down there. I couldn't have felt more at home throughout the weekend and I loved everyone I met. From the current students to the other prospective students, I totally loved everyone.

While my heart is telling me to go to Tulane, part of me is yearning for the incredible DC experience that Georgetown offers. It is an increidble school in and incredible city and I get so thrilled at the idea of being right smack dab in the middle of our country's political action. For the record, I'm a hardcore political junkie and I know I'd get my politics fix at Georgetown.

While I'm incredibly impressed with Tulane's academics, there is one area where the school is considerably lacking behind Georgetown. Unfortunately, Tulane has a very small Chinese program. I'm in my third year of Chinese and while I do not intend to major in it, I probably would run out of courses to take after my freshman or sophomore year at Tulane. Georgetown, on the other hand, has an extensive program and even offers a major. The situation with Chinese is not a make or break part of my decesion (I can always take independent studies with my professors at Tulane) but it's definitely somethign to be considered.

Last but not least, Tulane gave me an incredible financial aid package. I'm still waiting to hear back from Georgetown. If Georgetown cannot accomodate me with the kind of money I'm getting from Tulane, that will make my decesion. If not, then this will be an incredibly agonizing decesion.

I'd wait to see what the financial package is. Don't feel too bad for yourself -- you are going to a good school either way.

Thanks, OC. I visited Georgetown and did not have that good of an experience. What made the biggest impression on me was that the students seemed downright unhappy and I got the impression that it was due to the school's insane level of academic intensity. Combined with a lot of arrogance in the student body, I was immediatly turned off and Georgetown went off my radar for a while. Did I just have an unfortunately bad experience that isn't really representative of the school?

you went to honors weekend? i was there! tulane is effing awesome, i loved it and now i have such a hard choice ahead of me.

no, i visited georgetown and i didnt really enjoy it. they ended up rejecting me.

Tulane is indeed amazing. Not to mention New Orleans is the ****, too.

Tulane is indeed not amazing. Not to mention that New Orlean is not the ****, too

Milk your rudeness is astounding. Tulane is a fine school, and NOLA is an amazing city. After NYC its my fave city in America. Show some common courtesy.

bump..........

We need to know the financial details before giving our "advice".

Tulsadem - - Obama, G. Bush, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, Coulter, Carville, John Edwards etc. etc have all been on or near campus recently> While its not Washington DC - New Orleans is a hotbed for political causes (and corruption). You have a great choice between 2 fine schools, and I'm sure you will be involved either way. I'm a little preferential towards Tulane because my daughter goes there - but I hear lots of great things about Georgetown. See what kind of money G'Town offers you. Good luck.

milk, i LIVE in the city of new orleans. while we do have crime and corrupt politics, we are also experiencing a major rebirth in our civilization and economy. everyone in new orleans is working to rebuild the city to a greater quality than it had even pre-Katrina. i love new orleans greatly and my city will be a major factor in whether i decide to attend Tulane or not. everyone who comes to Tulane is helping New Orleans whether they realize it or not. people like you need to take facts like that into consideration.
