Tulane vs. Georgia Tech (Honors) **Business**

I really like both schools. They both offer something different. I would like input on what are the strengths of Tulane for business.

I am interested in international business, but not sure exactly what concentration in international. May be interested in business law...

Tulane would only be 3,000 /year

GT would be 10,000 /year

Really can't decide....

It is a tough one, I am sure. Interesting case for me since I was Tulane undergrad and GT post grad.

It seems to me your interests might lean you more towards Tulane, and other factors point that way also. Tulane has a very strong finance program, recognized by the Financial Times of London (their Wall Street Journal) as 10th in the world. Tulane has a law school right next to the business school, and you could more fully explore aspects of business law there. GT’s reputation is for engineering, people are usually surprised that they have a business school. Tulane’s campus and location within its city are far nicer than GT. Obviously the money also favors Tulane. I really cannot think of a factor where GT outweighs Tulane in your case, based on the information you have provided.

If you want links to the various aspects of Tulane’s program that have been highlighted by the FT of London and other things as well, just say so and I will dig them up from past posts (credit to Benetode for originally posting these). You have probably already seen them, but if not I will be glad to provide.

Based on your major and cost, Tulane seems the obvious choice.
Besides that, the two schools are very different. GT is large and public, Tulane is small and private. Tulane is also extremely involved in the NOLA community, GT seems to be all about the work.
So, unless you think you would fit much better at GT, I’m not sure why you can’t decide.

If you are interested in international business, then you must look at the Univ. of South Carolina, which is ranked #1 in the nation for that major. D1 goes there and loves it. She’s a marketing major.

Check out the international track of the Political Economy major at Tulane. It is quite unique.

[The Murphy Institute · International Perspectives Track](http://murphy.tulane.edu/undergraduate/concentrations/international.php)

Those are some pretty generous scholarships!

One difference you will feel between the schools is the social scene. Also, while both schools are great schools, there have been some cutbacks at Tech due to budgetary issues. What I am hearing from my s (who has friends aat Tech and might also take some courses there this summer) is that students ahve been shut out of classes due to fewer sections offered, etc. Something to think about.

Anyone catch the license number of that drive-by Gamecock?

Not that it doesn’t mean it isn’t a great place to study international business as an undergrad, but that ranking was for an IMBA. Congrats to South Carolina for that. However, I suspect (read sarcasm here) that it is too late to apply to South Carolina now. Maybe when they are ready to get an MBA.

FC: Now that was a good one!

Another consideration to think about:

GT is very well known for its engineering and related programs. And it does offer a business degree. Certainly a GT degree commands alot of respect. However, because the business department is not it’s crown jewel, it doesn’t command the attention of engineering grads in terms of money in the department(s), etc.

At Tulane, the Freeman school IS one of its “crown jewels”. The building looks like it, the respect it garners is immense, and the money is spent on programs within it.

So where do you want to be a student?

In addition to that difference, the difference in the feel of the campus between these two schools is immense. You owe it to yourself to visit to find out which place feels most like YOU.

Oh…I visited recently. Ht emoney just didnt work out at GT and the offer is too good to refuse at Tulane. I will be going to Tulane in the fall!!! I’m really excited!

Welcome to the Tulane family, Shankada! Very cool.
