I posted this under the Tulane forum, but I want to also post it under the LSU forum to see what LSU students have to say about this.

I need help making a college decision. I've narrowed down my college choices between Tulane and LSU. I'm planning on doing premed. I've been accepted into LSU's honors college and I recently visited for Spring Invitational. I got a full ride there and it's only 3 hours away from my hometown. Also, I've gotten so much credit from LSU from placement tests and AP exams that I can skip 2 years! However, everyone I talked to there that is from my old school told me it's very easy to get As. I'm worried that if I go to LSU, I'll just try enough to get As but not actually learn anything, which will screw me over when I start to take the MCAT.
Tulane, on the other hand, is a very good school. It's academically a lot better than LSU. I got a scholarship from there, but I'll still have to be $21,000 a year. It's 5 hours from my hometown and I will get some credit from my AP exams, but not nearly as much credit as I will get if I go to LSU. I feel like if I go to Tulane, I will actually learn and be challenged which will probably not happen if I go to LSU.
Also, will where ever I go for my undergraduate years affect my chances of getting into medical school? So, if I go to Tulane and do well, will I have a better chance of getting into medical school than if I go to LSU and do well?

just so you know, lsu is not a walk in the park. you will have to work for an A there. years ago it may have been an easy ride, but it isnt anymore. i know friends at tulane who say they are breezing through …so it all depends on who you ask

actually LSU has a great pre-med program. Tulane’s good as well. if you have a high GPA 3.8+ with a good MCAT, you can get into med school no problem. you should go to the school you like better, where you’ll feel most comfortable. med schools don’t care about the ‘prestige’ of the undergrad degree.

hmm, just read that you got a full ride to LSU. perhaps you should take it and save your money for med school.

I’m a native Louisianian who chose Tulane over LSU and after talking to various friends and comparing classes, LSU is ridiculously easier when it comes to pre-med classses. Maybe it does depend on whom you ask.

This is late, but I just thought I’d add that the reason Tulane’s acceptance rate to med school is so much higher is because they have higher quality of students. The kids who get into Tulane would probably get into med school no matter where they went for undergrad, because they made good grades and had good scores in high school. LSU, on the other hand, can’t be as selective with their admissions, and therefore has students who wouldn’t get into Tulane dragging down their med school acceptance rate.

And to the OP, if you ever read this, where did you end up going?
