I posted on your other post but I think you should be happy with tulane, its a great school and is beautiful, you will get a good education at both

why would you go to either for architecture? anyone heard of the university of cincinnati- its been number one in architecture for many years---and costs about ten thousand less if you are OOS---and if you got into WashU you most definitely would have been able to get at least half of at cincy--why???? i really don't understand

exactly, and the rest of cincinnati's programs are suspect, eeeewww cincinnati...cold and ugly (and dangerous).

Anyway, I think washington has a better program (esp. overall), but if you're looking to double major (or at least flexible majors) go to Tulane. When you graduate in 5 years for a professional degree, you get both an M.arch and a B.arch, vs. Washington which I think is a B.science(?) and M.arch degree over 6 years.

But if you "LOVED" washington convince your parents and you'll probably be happier, and make better grades. I would hate to go to a school because of my parents and resent them and the school and have a GPA that suffers because of that.

hey now...cincinnati has an awesome (archetecuturely amazing) campus.....and cincinnati as a city ,well don't let me start, is twice the city st. louis is

Forgot to mention, can you imagine the immense need for Architects in the coming years for New Orleans? Tulane is taking full advantage of this for its students.

Wash U's a very nice school. If you, and your family, can financially afford it, then go there. Don't go to a school because you won't be happy, because if you're not happy, your grade will reflect that. You said that your parents are "forcing" you to choose Tulane, but it's ultimately your choice. Also, you don't have much time, since the reply date is may 1st

I went with my daughter (who also has a Deans Honor Scholarship, but not for architecture) to visit Tulane for a weekend in early April, and one of the speakers at the presentation we attended was Reed Kroloff, the relatively new dean of the architecture school (I think he was hired less than a year before Katrina hit). He described how, due to hurricane Katrina, New Orleans is now the hottest place to have an architecture school in the country (because not only can you DESIGN things, but there is tons of money for designs to actually be BUILT immediately). As an architecture student at Tulane for the next 5 years, you would definitely get exposed to lots of new construction, new designs, etc.

As long as YOU are willing to pay the $175,000 or so difference ($35,000 per year for FIVE years, even assuming NO inflation), then amp915 should feel free to select Washington University over Tulane. If so, then that was very generous of you to offer.

I'm deciding between Tulane and Wash U (for architecture). I got the Dean's Honor Scholarship to Tulane (full tuition) but LOVED Wash U.

I'm basically being forced to go to Tulane by my parents, and I'm feeling extremely upset about it. Any advice or comments?

Yes. Examine why you are upset. Really think about it, and think about whatever the difference in overall cost will be (you don't mention how much aid Wash U offered), and the possible effect of that difference on your parents' lives and your life (and any siblings there may be, if any).

And even if your parents have well more than ample money to pay the difference painlessly, perhaps think of -- better yet, sit down and have long a chat with -- any of the thousands and thousands of high school seniors who would be overjoyed to have won a DHS at Tulane.

Go to Tulane. The city has some really great archeitecture for a student like you to look at. a full scholarship and the unique archeitecture that tyou can look at would be beneficial to you.

I chose Tulane over severalhigher rated schools because it is happening and the possibilities are endless. In the end it is a gut feeling. Hope your gut feels good about Tulane.

I ended up choosing Tulane, because of the scholarship ... thanks for your advice, you all are helping me feel better/more excited about it. (If I don't like Tulane I'll just transfer to Wash U after freshman year.)
