I applied to Tulane a couple days after the final deadline but still expected to get in with ease ...since its a private school n all, i have a 4.4 gpa and 30 act, i got wait listed...only applied because my friend got in and was offered 28 thousand dollars in scholarship each year..I don't know how you guys can consider a school that never wanted you in the first place...plus i doubt tulane would offer you a good sized merit scholarship considering the fact you were wait listed... tulane is one of the most expensive schools in the country...there are plenty of good schools out there, i hope you guys do end up going somewhere else, for me its u of michigan...

You do realize that this thread is 4 years old right? The people you are responding to are probably graduating from college in May

Yea I was going back between all these forums and didn't recognize the dates...

there isn't a $28 thou scholarship....

I have a 2100 on the SAT.
I got a 750 on the biology SAT II
I got a 700 on the Math sat II Level II and a 720 on math level I.
I have a 4.15 GPA weighted (3.97 unweighted).
I’m an AP Scholar with distinction (5’s on world, u.s., biology, english composition and a 3 on ap physics). I’m also in five honor societies.

I have a friend who was accepted with an 1800 on the sat, a lower gpa than myself and lower scores on ap exams.

Got waitlisted today I have a 32 ACT, 3.85 gpa, and great ECs. I thought for sure I would get in based on some of the acceptances I’ve already seen. Tulane was probably my number 1 choice before today, but I guess now I get to go to flagship university A or B -.-

I wonder if all of these weird waitlists have anything to do with the personal application. How many people here used the personal application?

I used the personal application too. I think it’s because Tulane accepts too many applicants early admission(with lower standards), causing many qualified applicants who apply regular to be denied a spot. Turns out their engineering program stinks though, so I’m not broken up about it. Tulane needs a better admission system.

630M-620CR
1870 total
3.9 weighted

wow seeing some of these stats amaze me why you guys didnt get in either!

WAITLISTED as well!

submitted app 11/28

gpa unweighted :3.85
ACT score: 33
didn’t send SAT
Top 1.5% at public school
Leadership: over 5+ positions

I used the personal application - the free one.
Honestly, I was pretty shocked.

@MGene

I got waitlisted today with a 1560 SAT and a 4.03 GPA, as well as numerous extracurriculars and everything else…so i’m thinking there must be something else they care about.

I guess most of you that posted on this very old thread that got resurrected haven’t read the other threads, so I will explain it again. Tulane is taking a much smaller class this year because last year’s was over target by 10%. So yes, people that normally would have gotten into Tulane before are being waitlisted this year, because if Tulane doesn’t keep the class size down there won’t be anywhere to put everyone. Tulane requires living on campus the first 2 years.

Since there are only a limited number of spaces, it really is not a surprise that Tulane would favor those that showed stronger interest by applying EA and potentially by other means. If Tulane is really a top choice for you, then let your admissions counselor know that and why. If it isn’t and you were just using it as a “safety”, then it shouldn’t be a big deal. I can see where it might hit your ego a little, but don’t let it. It is no reflection on you as a person or student or your record, but simply a reality of Tulane’s situation.

@rissasaurrussrex - the engineering program stinks? That just comes across as childish and immature lashing out. Is it very limited? Yes, it is. They reduced it to Biomedical and Chemical Engineering after Katrina, but I can tell you that the BME program at least is extremely well thought of. I don’t know as much about the ChemE program. Tulane was one of the first schools in the country to have a BME major and it is a very strong and popular (but very tough) major.

Yowza. A thread from 2005??? Better to start a new one, IMO

haha right, this thread is from my class (katrina class!) and we graduated almost 2 years ago…

Lols, I guess I said it “stinks” because I’ve heard from engineers living in the area around Tulane that they wouldn’t recommend the school for engineering majors. I’m just happy that I’ve been accepted to Cal Poly so far, as there were over 40,000 applicants this year. I respect the fact that Tulane was one of the first schools in the country to have a BME program, but if sources are correct, it has gone down hill.

I can assure you from first hand knowledge your sources are incorrect. In any case, best of luck at Cal Poly or wherever you end up. It is a really good school for engineering, for sure.

I applied mid-october and just got a response today that I was rejected.
I called twice in the duration because a lot of people in my school were getting accepted as early as november, even those who applied later than me, but they assured me that the committee just had a lot of applicants to look over.

I have a 3.5 UW gpa, 4.1 W, 2060 SAT (710 M, 670 CR, 680 W).
Based on my school’s naviance, this should have been a safety for me so I’m a little confused

This just shows that the problem with those systems like Naviance are that they only take into account history, not current events. Also, maybe you applied RD and they applied EA. Hard to say, stats are not the entire picture.

Very sorry you did not get in, but I am sure your qualifications have gotten you or will get you acceptances to some very good schools.

My daughter was deferred then waitlisted too (applied EA). She just sent her deposit to Notre Dame, was also accepted at Boston College (Honors program) and received an out-of-state tuition waiver at Clemson, so she was a bit surprised by the Tulane decision. 33 ACT, 4.0 UW, 4.4 weighted, 4th in class of 300. If she had been accepted at Tulane and received some merit money back in Nov, she definitely would have gone to visit, but we weren’t going to pay $500+ to fly out and see the campus w/a deferral. She did go see ND, BC, and Clemson after receiving acceptance letters, and she liked them all, but ND seemed to be the best fit. Good luck to all of you who have decided that Tulane is the school for you. One day I would like to see New Orlean and Tulane. Sounds like a fun place!

plms - I am so sorry she didn’t get in anywhere decent. LOL.

That is great that she had those wonderful choices, and is going to attend such a fine school as ND. I was on their campus about a month ago. Of course during the winter it is a little bleak, like many schools, but it is a very nice campus for sure. The bookstore is one of the biggest I have seen. I am sure we all wish her the very best of luck at ND.

FYI, naviance does differentiate between EA and RD on the scattergraph and data tables.
