Does anyone know how many applicants get into Tulane after being deferred from single choice early action?

What were your stats. That would give a better estimate.

3.70 UW GPA
4.04 Weighted GPA
29 ACT
over 300 community service hours
class president
2 varsity sports
church youth group leader
5 AP’s

taking ACT and SAT in december to try to improve scores

If you got deferred, it is likely because of your ACT score. Of course that is just a guess, we cannot see your whole app such as grade trends, # of AP’s etc. They may be waiting to see how your first semester this year goes. Getting a higher ACT/SAT would certainly help also.

To directly answer your question, I have never seen the stat you asked about.

Your stats seem good enough to be accepted at Tulane. Being deffered as opposed to rejected means that if your standardized tests scores and/or GPA go up you will most likely be accepted. They just want a bit more time to see how you play out as a student. Because you applied SCEA you should have an advantage over other RD applicants. Keep your hopes up I would not be surprised if you get accepted during the spring.

I am actually surprised that this was a deferral, esp. since you applied SCEA. Have you visited? Have you reached out to your regional rep. and gotten to know him or her? Have you told the rep. or admissions office that you would attend if accepted? I believe that the school is trying hard to improve yield so sincere commitments to attend will go a long way.

Definitely call a few times. Don’t go overboard but make sure you present yourself as a respectable educated person on the phone and make sure they understand Tulane is your first choice. Call and ask about your application status, the more they see how much you want to attend Tulane the greater your chances of getting accepted.

FWIW, I’m surprised you were deferred too. Do they have your first quarter grades? You’ll want to send them a mid-year report and, by all means, reach out to your regional rep!

My son was accepted in October to Tulane and they sent him a 100k scholarship. We visited and he loved it. I was a little more skeptical. Didn’t like the dining hall- Bruff, thought it looked dirty and the dorms, were pretty beat up looking. Can anyone give any comments on the school. I would love to hear others perspective on it.

I don’t mean this to sound flippant or anything, but isn’t he the one that will be going to school there? Bruff is fine, it is an old building but it was just remodeled. Dorms are dorms. There are many newer ones for upperclassmen that are nicer than the freshman dorms, but I don’t know anyone that has suffered irreparable harm living in Sharp or Monroe.

Dungareedoll-- are you the parent or the son? You seem to be posting as both. Perhaps you are neither ???

Concerned parent

But an hour or so ago you were the student who was accepted http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1065966703-post12.html
Hence the scepticism

Same thing in another post.

yup you are correct. I wasn’t sure if it was acceptable to be on cc as a parent so I wrote as if I were my son. Then shortly after I noted other parents replying to different threads. Didn’t think it was such a big thing. I’m just looking for answers and trying to figure out how to use this blog. I guess its pretty obvious that I’m not computer savy.

Hope that clears things up for you and anyone else who has been wondering

If you are new to cc (most new posters don’t seem to take to calling it “cc” til they’ve been around awhile) you’ll probably noice that while its fine to ask questions about a school and its facilities in that school’s forum, if you post what sounds liek a put down ( bad food, ugly/dirty dorms, bad crime, etc) in that forum, be prepared for a reaction from posters who atend or whose kids attend. Perectly fine to ask about the dorms, the food, the safety, but if its all critical it might not get the response you are looking for.

My DS got tired of the Bruff food. He didnt mind it as much as some others do (except for the pizza-- apparently its pretty foul and always burnt), and yes, there are schools with much MUCH prettier dorms. Agreed. The crime isnt as big a deal as peple perceive it to be. Be smart, be vigilant and the student will likely be fine. They are given a lot of info abouut campus and off campus safety when they arrive freshman year.

OK thanks for the info. As for being critical thats too bad that you took it that way. I was after all clearly stating what I saw and hence asking for others reactions. I wanted to see if others have seen/felt what I did and perhaps how things have since worked out for them. Honestly, I was under the impression thats what these forums are for.

I think we are all stating what we saw.

If you are new to cc, welcome. Lots of helpful posters here. Please understand that there are also posters who come on to be disruptive, and that has happened in this forum. As a brand new poster, presenting as both a parent and student, and posting some negative aspects of the school with the request to counter it, can se seen as provocative. Just sayin’. If that was not your intent, thats great.

Seeing jym’s post, it does occur to me that if you had also said what you found positive about the school (I assume there were at least a few things?) instead of only pointing out what you found negative, it would have been more…diplomatic. As jym says, people’s radars go on alert due to some posters in the past whose only purpose was to cause trouble. As a new poster, you could not have known that.

Hello, maybe someone can help me. My daughter recieved the Presidential Scholarship of $25,000. I was wondering what her chances are of getting the full tuition scholarship.(Deans I think). She is very busy and Im reluctant to encourage her as this is only the first school she has heard from. She is ranked somewhere in the top 5% of a highly ranked high school. Weighted gpa is currently about 4.8. (subject to drop a bit. AP physics!) 33 composit ACT and 700 math SAT and 650 verbal. How many Presidential Awards do they offer? and How many of the full tuition Deans Scholarships? She is pretty creative and artistic so I think she could probably come up with a decent project. Its the time she will have to invest that Im concerned with. Thanks.
