Tulane

Anyone transfer here? I finally visited and I LOVED it! Just looking for the usual info because their transfer site is a bit sparse.
Also, they don't even require an essay (gonna write one anyway) and the application is free! Woot!

im going to a school really close by there...but ive never visited. how was new orleans?

I imagine that they are dying for students since Katrina, so many kids left and never went back.

I can't find the link at the moment, but I believe they accepted 150 transfers this year. Their freshman acceptance rate was 37%, but I don't know the acceptance rate for transfers. They will have a smaller Freshman class than in past years - could have had a larger one, but they stuck to their commitment not to lower their standards for incoming students. Average Freshman SAT is 1310 (1320 last year).

My S transferred out of Tulane - only because he had to; his major was one of the three Engineering fields they phased out after Katrina. He loved it there (was there for Spring and Lagniappe semesters). I don't know what jimstandard means by "so many kids left and never went back" as I have not seen statistics on that. Around 90% of their students returned after their fall visiting semesters at other schools. I have only heard anecdotes about students transferring out whose majors weren't phased out; I don't know that it is a large number at all. S was only aware of a few.

The kids who came/returned seemed to love it there. The campus is vibrant; the city has many vibrant areas. And many sad areas which have not yet been able to recover. Community service - focused obviously on helping bring back New Orleans - is now a requirement for the Tulane degree.

If you want more info, gatoca, I will try to get it for you. IMO, it is a great place.

Thanks jmmom! That would be great!

My mother went to Tulane for grad school. She really loved it. It's a really good school.
