Tunnels at U of M??

Is it true that there are tunnels around the campus for getting around campus? We visited during Thanksgiving holiday and weren't really able to access most of the campus.

Yes, I know of one tunnel that connects two residence halls.

The U of M - Twin Cities doesn’t have a large tunnel system. There are a couple that connect a few buildings. U of M - Duluth is the college that is completly connected by tunnels. You can access their entire campus through their tunnel system.

And probably a good thing, too. Duluth — brrrr! :)

The Tunnel System is called the “Gopher Way” Here’s a the link to a .pdf map:

There are many more tunnels than this map shows but these are the main routes. You have to figure out the rest on your own. Appart from a dash accross Washington St you never have to go outside if you choose. My cousin says he spends the buld of the winter in a sweat suit.

Yes, the tunnels are interesting and well trafficked in the winter. I have been going to campus weekly (mid-day on Mondays) this last semester for a seminar on psychology research, and most days I stayed above ground most of the time. But tunnels are available for a lot of useful routes if weather demands.

Woah, that is more extensive than I thought. Thanks for the link!
