My son got accepted into UT CS but still waiting on Turing. Do you think he has a chance or most decisions are already handed out?
70%-75% sounds like a really great number to me.
But let me throw this out as something that should be considered. CS students, especially highly accomplished and ambitious students should consider goals beyond simply landing an internship. I suggest that such students should have a strategy on just what internships they will actively seek out and how those internships advance their career objectives.
Here is an example strategy my S followed after we had some long brainstorming sessions. He felt that he would have an opportunity to land 4 internships over his college years (through MS). His objectives were:
- Only accept internships that involved his area of concentration (AI/ML).
- Try to secure internships at a range of companies from startups through large multinationals.
- Target one internship for a popular FANG company.
- Try to experience internships in different parts of the country.
He was successful in objective #1 and all of his internships directly involved AL/ML and that experience really helped build his resume. He held internships at a very small startup, a privately held unicorn, and two large multinational companies (including a FANG). His experiences at these various internships built a love for the startup culture that he eventually followed. Objective #4 was not, however realized all his internships were in California although he did have offers from companies in Seattle WA, New York NY, and Mclean VA.
The point I’m trying to make is not that you should follow this type of strategy, but rather that you should consider developing your own strategy and not just look for any internship.
This is really some great advice. All of these kids are very focused and accomplished and with careful planning should be fine regardless of which program they end up attending…
Same for me
You should go to the admitted student events for both programs, that’s the best way to find out program is a better fit for you. The internship opportunities are pretty similar from what I know, definitely not something you should base your decision off of. It really comes down to how much desire you have for a business major and which community you fit in with.
Hey @Hey2022, @techpreneurCV, @Theodore_Hawkings (and anyone else who got admitted to Turing but didn’t get an invite to the Discord), I’m the Turing Scholar that’s managing the incoming student Discord. Send me a PM with your (or your kid’s) full name so I can verify admission status and I’ll send you an invite. Really sorry that you didn’t get the email, admissions has been really wack this year. Congrats on Turing and I’ll see you soon on the server!
I got a NO from Dean’s Scholars leaving Turing as the only unknown at this point.
Same here, rejected from deans at 12:05 today but still nothing from turing and CSB
My son got rejected from Deans also. Turing and CSB still pending.
I don’t know if one can be in multiple honors. Anyone know?
You can’t be both Turing and CSB, but you can additionally be in a CNS honors program such as Dean’s.
if deans is starting to reject that might mean that all acceptances are out already
Do you know if CSB is BHP + Turing or BHP + CS?
It’s the class schedule of Turing + BHP but with different professors and classmates.
No from Polymathic, awaiting Turing and CSB
Appreciate your responses, I know this has come up in here before, any sense on how the internships work for CSB students, are most of them able to find one?
Hey do you happen to know if Turing is still sending out decisions after today? I’ve heard of some acceptances today and was wondering if those are the last acceptances
did they get emails?
Yes
oh I haven’t seen anyone say anything about acceptances so they might have only released a few decisions
