turing down what for cornell??

I will start, U of Chicago, Rice, Duke, J Hopkins, and Northwestern (wat a tough choice, seriously).

Cornell Class of 2009 :)

Rutgers-NB

UChicago and UIUC (physics)

Columbia, UPenn, Carnegie Mellon. Rensselaer Polytech

northwestern:(, carnegie mellon, tufts, uva, penn state, u.rochester, colgate, lehigh.

i know how you feel, that was a tough tough decision for me.

I'm probably gonna have to turn down University of Arizona (ranked 98th by USNEWS),

I know 14th rank and 98th , 84 places of difference, so they are not in the same level (1-50 ranks are tier 1 schools , right?) However, I have free-ride at U of A with full tuition and most part of room/board scholarships plus hundreds of dollars in grant money. Only a few grand in loans, which my parents can easily write a check for me. Think about it , spending 5,000 a year at state u or spending nearly 35,000 a year at cornell, and considering that i wana attend med school after undergrad, which I will have to take out 10s of 1000s of dollars in loans.. Which would you pick?

for my above post, cornell actually costs approx. $43,000+ a year , more like 45,000 school. However, with the finaid package i got only in loans and w/s in the amnt of $11,000, they are still money against me, either working for the money or paying the loans off later. With the $11,000 in "financial aid," my family would "only " pay $32,000 (more like 35K with other expenses and whatnot) a year. A big diff with state u. So I believe that constitutes a tough decision, for we're sacrificing a lot here.

I would say go Cornell. Money ebbs and flows but experiences last a lifetime. I don't have the decision now but I did have to decide where to apply and it turned out to be only 35k+ schools. So you could say I turned down the money when I was qualified to rake it in at a lesser school.

The improvement in your future job prospects almost certainly outweighs the added expense of going to Cornell. Plus, you can't put a dollar value on the intellectual pleasure of a higher quality education, assuming that's something you care about.

You should compare Arizona's med school admission percentage to Cornell's.

I personally wouldn't consider 1-50 to be tier 1. I'd consider HYPS and M/C(IT) to be tier 1, but then, I'm godawfully judgmental.

Cornell's med school admission rates are 76% for all, 89% for those with gpa 3.4 or higher. Couldn't find arizona, not even sure if it's published somewhere, so i guess not too much better than the 50% national average admit rate to med school.

You're right. I value intellectual experience. Money can't buy those pleasures and the great sense of self achievement. However, if I want to be a specialized surgeon, I need almost 14,5 years of education/residency after HS senior year. By that time down the road, if a motivated kid from state u got into Harvard med , Hopkins med or some other respectable med school and complete satisfactorily his trainings, then he won't earn less than me, the monetary investments constitute of enormous loans adding up interest. but what the heck, the higher caliber friends i can make at cornell ,will last a lifetime.

Are you sure your loans going to be accruing interest while you're in school? Not all of them do.

Full ride to Indiana University, Kelley school of business....it was a tough choice.

Turned down Rensselaer Polytechnic (and 15 grand :( ), Duke, Florida State University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

I was REALLY considering RPI, but after visiting Cornell, I knew that I would be happier there. eh, so I spend 60000 more over 4 years, but, as I learned from my friend, it should be seen as an investment. And an investment in Cornell's education will have a big payout over the long run (anyone taking Macroecon lol).

I am confident about my choice. I felt that Cornell would be a place for me.

Im presently a student at Cornell that turned down Northwestern..I am telling you right now its a great decision. First of all, Cornell name internationally and nationally carries more weight..second of all...people forget that northwestern is on the trimester...trimester is the worst thing ever..you go to school later than everyone, come home later than every one...and your breaks are always different than everyone else..i know many people dont think about that when making a decision..but it is an issue...u made a great decisison...8 of my fraternity brothers all chose cornelll over northwestern as well..its a great choice...trustme

what fraternity are you in

My S chose Cornell over Northwestern, Georgetown & U VA...it seemed like a tough choice while he was making it, but now that his acceptance to Cornell is "signed, sealed & delivered," it seems like we always knew that Cornell was where he wanted to go...

So...Ithaca here he comes...

i chose Cornell over Binghamton University and SUNY University at Buffalo.

no contest really

I choose Cornell over the Canadian schools (Schulich, Ivey and 26,000 at Queens)

wow, did everyone choose Cornell over NW, I feel bad for the Wild Cats. Actually, the quarter system or trimester deal really made the deal for me b/c it seemed a lot more intense than the regular semester system.

See you guys/gals at Cornell!
