I was recently accepted into my school's study abroad program that will be several weeks in Turkey & Greece. I was wondering if anyone had study abroad or travelled to those two countries, and had any advise? Like, it would be very rude to do ___ or try this type of food because its known to be very good? Anything would b appreciated :)

be sure to have a gyro or two…or three, or four, or five, or…

you get the idea. they are really good.

Thx! anyone else been to turkey and/or greece?

Watch those Turks… they know that you can’t understand Turkish and will try to rip you off. And there’s very little English there.

^ unless you go to a touristy town where there are lots of tourists. then, most shops, vendors, restaurants etc. know some english.

I have been to Greece 3 times ( vacations ). Greece is wonderful. Great culture, great food, and a nice climate. beautiful landscapes and seashores/beaches too. Food: Try stuffed eggplants Delicious.
Also, if you’re in a coastal town, you should go to restaurants and bars at the seaside. Then you can watch the sunset while enjoying your food/drinks, and often live music.

Advise: Do NOT make pictures or videos at an airport. That might get you in serious trouble.

I don’t know much about Turkey, except that the food is great and Istanbul is an awesome and beautiful city.

oh, to add to what Ranger91 mentioned… also do NOT attempt to take pictures of the policemen in Athens. they do not appreciate it. someone I was with got yelled at rather sternly.

im turkish.

most of the population really can’t speak english but try to communicate with young people, they probably are capable of speaking english. other than that, i dont know which city you are about to visit but if i were you, i would go to big ones. for example, istanbul-ankara-izmir. in turkey, just dont get naked cuz some people are conservative but dont scare either, if the weather is hot, just wear whatever you want and be comfortable…if you ever lived in new york, you would likely enjoy istanbul and ankara. also, if u ever lived in california, izmir would be a second home for you.

haha, in turkey, nothing is rude at all : )

I’ve been to Turkey several times. It’s one of my favorite places. Where would you be?

Turkey is an amazing country. The open air museum in capadocia (sp?) was well worth the long bus ride. And, Istanbul really gives you a sense of living history and cultural movements like no other place.

Thanks for the advice so far I would be in Athens, Delphi, and Thessaloniki for Greece. Then, Bergama, Izmir, Kusadasi, and Istanbul for Turkey. Most days are spent in Athens, Izmir, and Istanbul.
