Turkey in the summer?

Hey all,

I am contemplating studying abroad in Turkey this summer. Has anyone studied there recently? I'd like to hear feedback on the culture, people, safety, etc, as well as any tips for a history and international relations student. Would you say that it is safe for a single female traveling alone? What exactly are the standards of dress and behavior?

Any input would be appreciated!

Thank you!

Hi, I actually study in Turkey and can say that Turkey is a good choice. People are very kind, Turkish culture is rather unique, consisting of Byzantine (Roman), Greek, Arabic and of course Turkic cultures. It will be a good experience for you, I think. It is safe, you may not worry about that. There are no any standards of dress - you can see here women covered with veil and wearing mini skirts at the same time. However, if you are going to the small city - people will not be very glad with too open clothing. (But, it is most likely that you are going to large city like İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir etc., so you will NOT face ANY problems with clothing). You will be safe, as I said, however that does not mean that you will be safe everywhere and every time - there are some places that are better to avoid, but I think it is common for all cities in the world. What about behavior - Turkish people are very cordial and may be offended if you will reject the present etc. (I do not mean however the college students, but the aged people).
That’s all, I think. Will be glad to answer more questions, if any.

Thanks so much! That was really helpful!
