Turn Up Alternative/Indie Music on CC

My top 3 are Q And Not U, Housse de Racket, and Forward Russia. (The last two constantly change!!)

Ah I wanna go to Coachella so badly, but I gotta save up my cash for college!
@Helloel - I was sixteen when I got hired at the first store, which is typical for a lot of places. I’ve been super lucky in finding jobs, though! haha

Yeah, AliciaM, that is really lucky!

By the way, I just found turntable radio, can’t decide if I like it or not. Does anyone else use it?

Noah and the Whale, The Shins!!! And Okkervil River! And Fleet Foxes!

OMG I’m going to Lolla!

Matt and Kim, Ra Ra Riot, Bon Iver…definitely check them out. Favorite songs from each are:

We should share spotify usernames/playlists. that’d be cool. anyone else up for that?

In love with Arcade Fire and The Decemberists. And very jealous of all you music festival lucky kiddos. :P

To add the the music festival idiocy, I just bought tickets for the Newport Folk Fest this summer, always a fun time.

I live in Kentucky, at least 6 hours away from any music festival, and I can’t drive. Yeah, it’s great. But the good news is Death Cab’s coming to my town, and even though they aren’t my favorite, I just got so excited some good alternative band rolled through here and I could actually go.

I wish someone would come around close…I live right near a big university but no luck. Closest are usually New York or Boston so hard to get to see…

Seeing that Coachella’s headliners are usually the same as Lolla, I’m aiming to see Radiohead and Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre this summer in the great city of Chicago.

An emo/shoegaze discussion? Where the **** have I been all this time?

That’s funny cause that’s the main reason I love mystery cloud and some of the other STRKFR tracks. Just the content itself that’s presented in the cool spoken voice

Jealous as hell of all the people going to music festivals.

The Gorillaz were fantastic. Sad that they’re (probably) broken up.

Radiohead and Nirvana will always have special places in my ears and heart.

The Arctic Monkeys are pretty damn good. Songs like One for the Road on their new album are just awesome.

New Order is still going! Their new albums are good, not amazing, but DAMN they are good live.

These are bands that I could probably listen to indefinitely. ALL of their albums sound nice to me.

The problem with a lot of bands (not just indie/alt) is that they become either really terrible or mind-numbingly repetitive after their first album. I was going to put up a lot more band names before I realized that I only liked their debut albums.

There’s also a lot of older bands I like, but I didn’t put them up here because they probably don’t qualify as indie/alt.

go ahead! alt/indie is sooo broad man. or at leas for the purpose of this thread it was just supposed to be label for that direction of music. anything really near it is a go.

ahh New Order. yeah its neat when bands like em and depeche mode are still going even if it isnt the same caliber of what they were

and no i get you…i sometimes feel like im not a very “serious” listener of bands because i only like one or two of their albums, but it’s very hard to find a band that puts out multiple albums that agree with your tastes. i too am very hesitant when listing favorite bands just for that reason

No one on this thread has mentioned The Airborne Toxic Event yet. All their albums are great and they’re even better in concert. Pitchfork ripped their first album years ago and even though I totally disagreed with the critic, I found the review hilarious.

I’m going to see New Politics in NYC in January. They seem like a raucous concert band.

People probably already mentioned Andrew Bird, but check him out. He released a new EP and the title song, “Pulaski at Night”, is great.
